Anschutz Match54 Picatinny rail - how to attach?

Hi All

I bought a dovetail to Picatinny adapter for the Anschutz 54 22lr action from DIP. I ordered it before I received the Anschutz and discovered that no holes have been drilled and tapped into the receiver.

I note from the website that if you do not have holes you should order the set screws. I did not order the set screws.

Was just wondering what these set screws look like and how you fix the rail to a receiver without holes?

Pictures will be much appreciated

The DIP rail has drilled holes and slots along its centerline and also has six threaded holes along the sides of the rail. Without holes drilled into the receiver you would need to slide the rail onto the receiver dovetail and then screw in the setscrews that would push down on the receiver forcing the rail up against the dovetail groove thereby locking the rail onto the receiver.

I am not a fan of that particular way of mounting that rail. My 54 has holes drilled into the receiver so that is how I attached my rail. On my particular action the rail ejection port cutout does not line up perfectly with the actions ejection port, it seems that Anschutz has made 54 actions with holes drilled in different locations over the years.

This may not be helpful now but the J&P Delrin rail adapters under Burris Signature Zee rings has been flawless for me and seems to work with any Anschutz rail I’ve encountered.

Just contact DIP and get the set screws.
They're recessed allen headed and need to be exactly the right length to lock without sticking up and interfering with scope mounting.

Six of 'em go in the 3 sets of double holes

The set screws will put dimples in the receiver. Be sure that you are really ready to do something that is not irreversible and will devalue the rifle.

There are those that claim a Anschutz will not shoot accurately with a rail on it.
They say that the best are the thin 11mm clamp on rings.

The set screws are 6/32 UNC. Put a piece of lead shot in the hole under the screw. If you purchase the screws yourself, just use a file to square off the tip. I have the DIP rail on my 54 model 1913, perfect fit, and no movement with a Nightforce BR on top. I have removed and re fitted the rail....no marks on action surface.

Started with picatinny rail blank from Brownells.
Radioed the bottom to match barrel with step for action. Used the screws holes in the rear base for mounting. Bedded full length. Is great because more base forward for mounting more scopes.

Is that a single shot or is it magazine fed. If a single shot, you will have feed problems with a rail that extends ofer the port. There are rings that you can fit a scope to the on slot mat on the back of the receiver. Going to the range today but when I get back I will post a link.

The clamp on rail for the Anschutz actions is used on most prone and 3-position rifles in order to allow the scope to be mounted forward enough for proper head position and eye relief when shooting prone. Accuracy is not impacted at all and the rail actually adds a degree of stiffening to the action.
