How does a model 64 Anschutz compare with a 82g Kimber?

Kimber 83g is nowhere near the Anschutz class.

Some of the Kimbers shoot very well.......I think they may vary a little more in out of the box quality..? I would choose a 54 action over the Kimber every time but IMO they will "probably" hold their own with the average 64.

Of course this is just one mans opinion......

The CMP is selling the Kimber 82G's. Why would they own rifles that were rejected? I would think that Kimber would be selling them.

The source: Allegedly CMP via various Kimber owners (whom I shoot with) who bought from CMP and spoke to them on the telephone regarding how these rifles were obtained in the first place and why the military gave them up. This may be third hand info, but is very consistent in discussions held at different times with different people. Either these folks are all wrong or all right. But seems the source is the same.

first I would not hesitate to get an 82, (just don't want one), I do have a Remington cmp it was even marked as repaired, lol

some say ? that Kimber was not making enough money.. gotta love rumors, speculation, etc.
no doubt there are some golden ones, and some not even close.

Why just a 54 action? Why not look at both the 54 and 64 actions? Not everyone can afford the 54 action which is admittedly the better of the two. But my 64 actioned MPR has blown away several 82 Kimbers and even custom rigs with Hall, 40X, Suhl actions having Match Grade barrels to name just a few. That's not to say I wouldn't buy an 82 if I was to buy another rimfire rifle given the price CMP was selling them for.

Agreed...If you can afford it. But the 64 Actions makes a heck of a nice and accurate shooting 2nd best. Thx for the clarification!.

I hate to chime in on my first post, but you are 100% incorrect about the Kimbers being rejected by the military. I personally know some of the folks at the CMP South Store.
I have owned an 82G that I bought unfired from the CMP. No stock cut either. The Kimber and H&R 12 are second tier "match rifles". I have multiple Anschutz rifles and a Walther KKM-UIT. All of them will out shoot a Kimber. My two most accurate rifles are an Anschutz 1808 with Shilen barrel and a 2007 in a BR50 stock with 690mm Lilja barrel.
Almost forgot my 64 MPR is also very accurate.

Regardless of the impressive line of rifle you may or may not own (which has nothing to do with the original question posed -whats the source), would you care to set us straight as to the reason why the 82G Kimber ended up at CMP that were originally purchased by the military and in their armory? I'd love to hear your version of why what I've been told by different sources and allegedly coming directly from CMP personnel, is "100% incorrect." I've been wrong before and don't mind being told I'm wrong about anything, but you didn't tell us what the "right" answer is. So clue everyone in.

First of all Alex I am not bragging about the rifles I own as you seem to think. I was comparing my rifles to the Kimber and H&R 12. Owned both. Excuse me, but are you questioning my honesty? My source is the Manager of the South Store. He and I have had many conversations about the rifles that have been turned in - not just Kimbers.
So far I have bought 8 rifles from the South Store. I live 60 miles from the South Store. My wife and I shoot an IDPA match every month, close to the Depot, so I have an excuse to stop by the CMP.

This and other shooting blogs are here for people to share and exchange information and you are the one who jumps in and says what I posted is "100% wrong" and provides no further explanation. And where the heck did you get that presumptuous line about me questioning your honesty? I don't know you from Adam and am in NO WAY questioning your honesty. If I was, I'd tell you, but not in a public forum. Just looking for a straight answer without the attitude. I asked not only where you got your information, but also to set the record straight as to how and why CMP came into possession of the previously owned all those 82G Kimbers that we both agree do not shoot as well as does an Anschutz. So lets try this again...why did the military part with the 82G's that CMP came into possession with? I'll reiterate what I said, and that was whatI was told by three different sources, all who bought their 82G's from the CMP and that was the story they provided. I personally don't own a Kimber 82G, but have shot against several of them in competition.

Sorry that I got my feathers ruffled. Next time I stop by the CMP I will ask Leon to clarify what he had told me. Actually my H&R 12 was more accurate than my Kimber. One thing I did not like about the Kimber was how deep the fore end was. The barrel sits very high in the stock. I had to use a track plate to stop it from "tilting" every time it fired. The 12 had it's own issues. The stock must have been made for Sasquatch.
IMO the 54 is a better action than the 64, but some 64's shoot really well.
I think a broad brush statement would be Anschutz rifles are "better" than Kimbers. They certainly have better triggers. The lowest I could get a Kimber trigger was about 6 oz. At that level one has to close the bolt carefully.

I too am sorry we got off on a bad note. I do agree with your comments about all those rifle and have been privileged to shoot many of them over the years, except for the H&R12 you mentioned. I have a friend up in Idaho who has one and loves the thing. And there can be no doubt that the 54 Action of Anschutz is superior of the two (54 vs 64). Frankly, when I bought my 64 MPR, I had just gotten into the .22 rimfire thing thanks to some of my Benchrest buddies who were telling me they were as much fun and even helping in developing good or better habits for Benchrest and centerfire rifle that I've been shooting since I was a kid.

As for the Kimber 82G, I'd be lieing if I didn't say I really like those rifles. Honestly, I could care why CMP has been selling them and got to shoot some of my friends. Like you say, it is a stout rifle for sure. But I really like the feel but just couldn't justify buying ye another .22. Because accuracy has ALWAYS been my "thing", I strive for the best possible accuracy in every rifle I shoot. But knowing the rifle's limitations is always useful no matter how "pretty" one looks.

Lastly, welcome to this website. I do hope our initial meeting is well past and not indicative of the fun you, others and I, can continue to have in sharing knowledge, practical application and shooting skill with one another. Best wishes in your future competitions and do let all of us know why those 82g 's became available.
