In searching through a couple different forums looking for actual examples of anschutz accuracy, I didn’t really find anything to my satisfaction.
I didn’t let that deter me from buying a lightly used 1517 at a steal.
Once in hand, I added a Harris bipod (my rifle does not have the uit rail), dip picatinny base, and high power benchrest scope. In the very near future I will have a 3” benchrest adapter to use with my front rest. I also did not have a proper torque wrench so I just had to go by feel with the action screws. I have since ordered a wrench with proper values for torquing down the screws to factory spec. Once I get the ammo selection squared away, I will do a test with different torque values to see which is best for this setup.
I have a few other 17hmr rifles so I grabbed a couple boxes of ammo I had lying around and made it out to the range for some ammo testing. All I can say is damn impressive. This anschutz has definitely got it.
I shot a few round robin groups with each ammo type in various wind conditions (2-13mph according to the kestrel), and came up with some great results. I usually do 5 round groups but with the wind, I wanted to save some rounds to repeat the test another day with better conditions.
All groups were 3 rounds, shot at 50 yards, using bipod and rear bag.
Ammo types were: from top to bottom
Hornady 17g VMax
Best: .105”
CCI 20g GamePoint
Best: .160”
CCI 17g A17
Best: .110”
Federal 17g TNT
Best: .065”
