Anschutz 1717

I'm new to the world of high end rimfire rifles. Always wanted to try a 17 HMR, and figured I'd eventually pick up a Savage A17 autoloader.

But low & behold this little budget-buster came along. Mines the heavy barrel version, blued steel & beautiful fiddleback walnut. Currently have a Leupold 8.5-25x50mm on top, former owner said it shot tiny little groups @ 50m. I'll likely stretch that out to 100 & even 200m on a windless day.

Few questions...Did these come with 1 or 2 of the four round magazines?

Anyone else here have a similar rifle?

Update from this thread. I did pick up another Anschutz 1717 but in the silhouette sporter configuration it preferred CCI 20 grain jacketed soft point.

Further to lawman29's post above referencing my Annie out for rockchucks, I took her along last month for our annual Rat Rodeo which is mostly bench shooting our CF rifles and custom 10-22's out the truck window for sage rats at a friends large alfalfa/cattle ranch.

Not a bench rifle by any standards, but my Annie 1715D HB in 17HMR dropped squirrels out to a lasered 247 yards during the shoot from the bench when my 20VT and 221 Furball were in the truck. No 'rat-o-batics' at those ranges of course, but a dead rat is a dead rat any way you look at it. And it showed the accuracy potential of both the rifle and the commercial loading of the 17HMR.

To me, the 17HMR is probably the best gift to we varmint shooters that has ever come down the pike in recent memory. Flat shooting, accurate, reasonably priced, and.......no reloading! Whoopee! And why not house that nifty little rimfire in a fine rifle such as the Anschutz? It's a 'win-win' for us! :)

My Annie was a pawn shop score, but came with two 4-round magazines.

I think you shop at a higher class pawn shop than me. :)
Sadly they closed our pawn shop a couple months ago. I found a few guns and several tools and other items over the years.
That pawn shop had a Ruger #1 with the BEST wood I’ve ever seen on any RUGER by far. It was in 7MM STW.
I should have bought it just for the wood.

I don't like the look of that rattler at all
Here's what he was lookin' for - just a little shelter! :p Son-in-law, Matt was shootin' while I spotted and recorded - never knew Matt could react and vacate a location so rapidly as when he spotted the rattler heading his way . . . mine is pretty 'plane Jane', with some handling dings, but shoots pleasingly well - it prefers the Speer 20 Gr. HP.
I only had to cough up $1K to purchase - gun show - it came with 4 magazines. Pleasantly surprising performance in the dog towns. :D The video, even heavily shortened won't load . . . we were shooting from a small knob
which had escaped the ravages of a burn - except at our location, cover was scarce.

How did your rifle perform? Look nice! RG

Hal, we've got two shops here in town. I check in every month or so to see what treasures may have arrived. Most times it's just more plain-jane long guns and plastic pistols, but one never knows.

A beautiful Browning Hi-Power, a pristine CZ 527 221FB, Anschutz 1715 17HMR are but a few that came home from one of the shops here. It pays to cruise by and check them out when the mood hits.

RGRobinett: That pic reminds me of the reason I always have a handgun on me when out in the wild. And another reason I never, ever sleep on the ground any more when out there! :o
