Anschutz 1517 d 17hmr

Does anyone have any experience with the 1517 d classic in 17 hmr? Really thinking about saving up some coins and picking one up for smaller varmints. Being it is one of the more affordable annies, (750-900) I thought I may try it as my first anschutz. I just won't accept an in- accurate rifle though.

I have one that I use in a 100 yd for score varmint league. It is very accurate with either CCI TNT ammo or Federal ammo with the 17 gr TNT bullet. Only change I have made is a lighter trigger spring. I am happy with mine. It also is deadly on live vermin.

I have an MPR and the pistol in .17hmr and both are great for vermin. For more detailed info, rimfirecentral.com forums has a wealth of info on the Annies in all caliber.

John, I have a 1517D HB. If the wind cooperates, mine is a .7 to 1.0 moa rifle at 100 yds. Mine likes the Hornady 17gr. V-Max load. Got mine at Cabelas. Cabelas had an exclusive arrangement with Anschutz where the rifles were supplied with a 2-stage match trigger factory set at approx 4 oz. I believe the trigger is Anschutz #5098. Nice trigger! Cabelas listed them for about $1000 but I saw them priced as low as $850 at my local Cabelas on close-out.

I started out with a 1517HB for shooting richardson GS about..15? years ago. shot many, many thousands with it over the years. it still groups around 3/4" at 100 with 17Gr CCI. sometimes it runs 1/2-5/8" depending on the lot of ammo. absolutely the best cartridge for ground squirrel at ranges under 125y. in a lot of ways, it is the perfect rifle: a proven performer that you are not afraid to use/abuse.

I recently semi-retired it in favor of a 1727F, which is just out of this world fun. :-D I'll likely never sell my 1517. too many fond memories.

My wife caught me completely by surprise when, for our 50th anniversary, she gave me this very rifle. I love it . . . I put a Nikon 4-16 x 42 Monarch Side Focus (Mil-Dot) on it and have enjoyed excellent accuracy.

I've had the time of my life shooting ground squirrels here in Oregon. I totally love this rig.

I also have a 1517D and love it. I agree with everything posted above. It will hold 1/2"-5/8" groups at 100 w/ 17 grain Hornady V Max with no wind. I have not tried any other ammo since this shot so well. You can't go wrong with this rifle.
