Anschuts Model 54

What Model 54 would you recommend for benchrest shooting? Nothing overly serious mainly fun shoots. I would prefer a heavy barrel. What series would you suggest?

Thanks

For fun shoots the 64S BR would do just fine.

I'm in the process of converting my 1416D HB into a bench gun for fun shoots. If I didn't already have the 1416 I would definitely buy a 64S BR.

Jim

Get a late 70's or newer 54 that has the 5018 trigger. The earlier wing safety rifles don't have as good a trigger for BR. You also want the 25" or longer bbl. Don't buy one of the repeater silhouette versions although a single shot silhouette model would be fine.

Jim,
Just out of curiosity (if you know) what the difference between the 64SBR and the 64 MPR other than the forend on the stock? Thx

Call Mac Tilton at MT Guns and see what he has in an 1807, 1811, 1907 or 1913 (the stocks are simpler) smallbore comp gun.

He'll send some pictures of the diffrent models.

Not much, barrel length, stock, and price. I had an MPR, sold it and kept the 1416HB.

Thinking about this rifle but has some concerns about the barrel, What do you think?

Anschultz 54 (pictured on top with light colored wood show some handling marks) rebarrelled ( by francis gaulin) with a new 1913 supermatch heavy barrel (the biggest 54 barrel) shortenned to 23.5 inches ( target crowning )to improve balance single shot no scope no rings very accurate $1500 final price drop 900$

I think that from Anschutz is best choice for BR models 1913, or 2013. Both are equiped with anschutz Heavy match barrel, they are different only in action. 1913 has 54 and 2013 has their new (i dont know the name of it).

But action used in 20xx rifles is very good, because it allowes you to change barrels without need of gunsmith.
