ANOTHER SHOOTING 101 QUESTION

hello again all. is there any legitimate, genuine, load data that is to be gathered during fire forming and when there are less than 100 rounds through a barrel. fixin to fireform 100 cases in a brand new barrel and wanted to ask the community. thanks in advance. bryant.

I think it's a good time to find a baseline seating depth. Often my match loads seating depth are the same, or very close to the same seating depth I found worked in forming. And that's for a case I'm improving (dasher,br-a, etc)

If you're just fire forming a piece of brass designed for the chamber and not altering the case, just matching it to your chamber, often you can find a match load that works for both forming and formed cases. Sometimes just a minor tweak after forming is necessary. Though your results could vary.

If you don't have a dedicated bbl for fireforming, I would make that a priority. I would FF 20 rounds twice and use those to work up loads. I always fire new brass twice before using in a match. Personally, I don't trust brass until then. First time in a slave bbl and second time I fire them in a match bbl as fowler's. Load the other 80 and use this way. You'd be surprised how fast you go through them and not put unnecessary rounds down the tube. If you get a great bbl you'll be happy you didn't wear it out ff-ing brass. This pertains to 6ppc.

I believe there's always load data to be collected, basic site in, first ladder test to compare with the post formed ladder test, CBTO ( lands) pre and post barrel break in.
I learn something every time I pull the trigger good or bad.

I ff 60 and used them to figure loads then in matches. I ff the other 140 as fowlers anytime I was shooting.

As others said, you can get a rough idea on what your barrel will like once it is out of the juvenile stage, BUT some barrels really come alive once they have had 100-150 rounds through them. While my hummer barrels have often been hummers from their first target, you do occasionally get some which you are just about to give up on, then just as you threaten it will be their last chance, they come alive and start behaving.
