Another Savage bedding question.

What is a good way to get the pillers out of the stock to piller bed it. It is a Savage f class stock. I am a little confused on what to do on pillar bedding. Do I bed the outside of the pillers or the inside where the treads are for the screws or both? Would this make sence to do both?

josh i am a tad confussed. as i understand it your stock has pillars in it now ,why would you take them out to pillar bed them again ? T.R.

You only want glue on the outside of the pillars. Coat the inside of the pillars and the screws themselves with whatever release agent you are using.

the pillars i have in the stock now are not bedded. Would it be ok if I didnt take them out and just puttie in them and bed the rest of the gun?

Josh,

You don't need to do anything with the existing pillars other than insure that you don't get much bedding compound inside them. I used a dremel to remove about 1/8 inch of stock material around the top of each pillar but I really don't think I needed to do that. My goal was to have as much of the action in contact with the bedding material as I could. I used the top of the pillars as the position of my action in the stock. Set up all your stock clearances relative to the existing pillars.
