Another 'Praise report' for Sightron.

Ive had my S3 6-24x50 for over a month now. and really love it. And I had heard all the talk of how it compairs to the Nightforce and better than Lupy. So, I had a little extra cash and bought a 8-32x56 NSX. Well I got it in today. ANd you know what, Its a extremely nice scope.. So I got home, and had both the NF and the S3 out and was looking at some trees along ways away. And I tell you what, I think Both are top notch. But I actually think the S3 has a little better resolution! Ive also heard how nice the clicks are on the NF, me personally I like the S3's a little better..

Im in no way bashing the NF. its a great scope. and Im very glad I got it. I guess I just cant believe a scope costing half as much has so much to offer.

i had bought one in 8-32 and when it came and i compared it to my other high end scopes i ended up ordering another so now i have 2 300wsm with 2 s3 scopes on them. i'll never buy another leupold ever.i have never owned a scope that is as percise as my sightrons s3's and i have many elites, vx3, monarchs, black diamond and xtr, and on and on. dont get me wrong i love all my scopes egually but my sightrons are absolutely amazing. i dont think that these $3000 plus scopes out there are that much better, actually there is hardly any difference in clarity, resolution etc in my opinion, in other words there is not no $3000 dollars worth of better clarity, yea there might be a little tiny noticable difference but not 3 grand worth in my opinion. go and buy 4 sightrons instead and i guarantee you will not be dissapointed.

Well I finally had a chance to shoot a real range this past saturday. I took both my rifles with me. One has a Sightron S3 in 6-24x50 milldot and the other is a NightForce NXS 8-32x56.

I was shooting at 600 yards mostly, and first thing in the morning was the best viewing. with both set at 20x. From what I could tell I couldnt tell a difference between the two scopes. Both had great resolution. I could clearly make out a 3/4" black diamond inside of an 3" orange target. So I would both are equal in the resolution.

The main difference between the two is how the side focus works. On the S3 it seems as if there is a small window where you get your best image. small movements make a big difference. Where as the NightForce side focus has a large amount of of movement in the knob before you can tell anything is happening. To me it seemed a little harder to get the perfect sight picture.

I dont know if that is a good thing on the S3 that so little move ment makes such a drastic difference, But I kind of like it.

But I will say this, after a while when the mirage really showed up. Both were quite effected. Im not used to that kind of mirage where I shoot, so Ive got to learn how to shoot in it.

So, All in all. Both scopes to me are great scopes. And I woulnd not hesitate to buy either. I guess the Sightron is just friendlier on the pocket book.

That's good info. I just received an SIII 6-24X50, and I was very impressed looking through upon pulling it out of the box. I should have it mounted and tested on the range in a week or so. But so far, it has impressed me with clarity and brightness.

Topwater,

Wait till you see how it tracks ;) Repeatability was incredible on my 6-24x50. After a weekend at a match and at least 40 up/down cycles,~300yds up to 1200yds), the 100yd zero was exactly where it was before the match.

I talked with Alan at Sightron yesterday about the differences in the side focus between the S3 and the NF NXS. He said its basically a gearing difference. The S3 has a faster rate of adjustment.

I actually think I like that faster rate, as I was shooting yesterday with my NF and it took longer to get it focused in.

Today Ill find out if my zero is in the same spot. I had left the S3 dialed up to 750 yard from this past weekend. Ill shoot it today and see where the shots fall back at 100 yards.
