another new guy!

First of all, this site is great! I read a lot before posting my questions about a Savage 12fv in .308. I'm not too concerned with benchrest competition, but I would like to shoot tiny groups a long way off! My only experience with centerfire rifles has been with the few I've owned. An A-bolt .300Win, a 700ADL in 7STW with a Douglas bbl and H-S stock, a M70 Classic in 7mm Rem Mag and a flattop AR-15 in .223. All but the AR were hunting rifles. All of this long range bench shooting with a scoped rifle is pretty new to me. I still own, and REFUSE to sell, a Winchester 43 rechambered to .22 K-Hornet. My main focus has been my Super 14 Contender with barrels in .222, .30 Herrett and 45/70, along with my 10/22 I built, my H&R buffalo gun in 45/70 and an assortment of other handguns. I'm a young guy,33), but I like some of the old stuff, the K-Hornet, .222, and the Herrett) along with the new stuff. Actually if it goes bang, I want to play with it! I'm open to any and all suggestions and advice on long range shooting since my main long range usually consists of the buffalo gun, my T/C or Super Blackhawk on steel at 200yds.
One more thing, here in North Louisiana, a new range has opened up recently. It's the only 1000yd range in the state! Eventually I may get brave and try the 1000yds. For now I'll stick to 100 to 400 so I won't make a complete fool of myself. So far my best 100yd group with a rifle has been about .5 with a friend's .308. My best 100yd group with a handgun was about 3" with the 45/70 Super 14 Contender. Not great groups, but they could be worse. Like I said I'm open to any and all suggestions on long range. I'm willing to listen and ready to try some precision shooting with a rifle.

Welcome Kevin

There are several members here who are not real BR shooters. I am one of them.

I look for the best accuracy I can get. I prefer 1 shot clean kills vs tracking...

These BR boys are the smartest people I know.

The reloading and casing prep areas are equally impressive.
