Another "Dog - Gone" Thread

I think that you nailed it. Imagine what a peachy world this would be if we all knew how to love as much and as hard as our dogs do. jd
A dogs love is unconditional. Yours and SSL's post says it all, made me tear up thinking of this and my Shadow who I lost 5 years ago, had him 14 years and it hurt to hear he had be put down and I wasn't able to be there with him. Not many things in life worse than losing a dog. Prayers go out to you sir.

I can relate to what you are going through. I have had dogs shot by deer hunters and poisoned by neighbors that moved in from other communities and it’s not like I lived on a 1 acre lot and didn’t have plenty of land for them to roam freely. People who truly loved and show their dogs attention can truly relate to the late comedian, Jerry Clower. He had a tape that was titled “ Dogs I Have Known”. These were true stories of coon dogs he grown up around and hunted with. I have thought about that title quite a bit in the past year reminiscing about some of the fine dogs I was blessed with getting to know. Only a owner that establishes a relationship with his dog and truly gets to know them can make such a statement as that. Sorry to hear about your loss. Think of the great joy he gave you and I’m sure the if Gunner c

It is with tears in my eyes that I say goodbye to my best buddy for these last fourteen years.

Aspendale's Gun Smoke, AKA Gunner, Gundog, Gun, took his last ride in the rig today. I know that there's a bunch of y'all who know the kind of pain I'm going through right now, and yeah, I'll accept your prayers and sympathy. jd
Here's to 14 of the best years with your buddy, I know that heavy, crushing feeling. Prayers for you in this painful time. May the memories bring a smile to your face and maybe you'll forge some new memories with a new buddy. Sincerely, Jonathan Taylor

You guys are the greatest, and I can feel your love and loss as well as my own. I actually know folks who say they'll never get another dog because they simply can't deal with this pain. I'm not gonna be one of them, at least now.

I've already paid a deposit on a new puppy, it's just gonna take awhile to happen. And no new pup is going to be my Gunner, just as Gunner could never be my old Gretta. And Gretta could never be my old Sue.

I've gotta consider myself pretty lucky, since I've pretty much had a dog all my life, and I've only had five dogs. They almost all lived a long life, and I was shattered to lose every one of them. I do know that I've been incredibly lucky in the amount of quality times me and my buddies have had. jd

Many prayers so sorry

So sorry for your loss, you have my complete sympathy and condolences. My wife and I are facing this same thing right now, 15 year old Red Heeler named Petunia. It's going to hurt!

I am so sorry to hear about Gunner, you and your family have my deepest sympathy and condolences. You are doing the right thing getting another pup. The new pup will lick your face and ease your pain. It has been said that you don't own your dog, your dog owns you and they give you unconditional love and affection. I have been owned by seven doberman pinschers over the years and cried like a baby when each one passed away. I would be heart sick for months and loose a lot of weight. Couldn't eat or sleep. I hope you get your new pup soon and know he or she will climb right into your heart and make you whole again.
God Bless

I’ve taken a few for the one way trip to the vet. A friend told me if there’s such a thing as re-incarnation he wants to come back as a rich mans’ dog. We have a young basset now and, though he’s a pain in the ass, we love him. He has to go out at the damnedest times but he never disappoints - he had to go. It may be a deer in the orchard, a squirrel in the pines, a walker on the road, the neighbor leaving for work at 5:30AM, and all these things are 500 feet away but this he’ll defend. Remember the good times. It won’t help you forget but it’ll make you feel better.

In my experience... the pain of this loss *will* ease... at least enuf to begin to consider the joy of getting you another little buddy... and thats really where the healing lies.

The joys and the pain are inseparable.
