Another AR-15 load question

Jim, We have been using H335 for lighter bullets 50 to 60gr. The 60grVMAX really shoots well in our 1-8 and 1-7 twist barrels. The VMAXs are great for lighter bullets if you can find some they are very accurate in my ARs. IMR 8208 is my go to powder for heavier bullets......

For informal shooting I use bulk 55 gr fmj/spire with 25 gr re15/varget. Good for 200 yard in all positions.

I’m almost in the same boat as the OP. Shot Service Rifle for years, moved to AR Match Rifle, then a Bolt Match Rifle. Sold them except the bolt gun, and low and behold I still have a short barrel AR. For my recreational shooting with a 223, usually no more the 300 yards, I started with my lightest bullet, 52 SMK’s, I picked a ball powder for ease of loading through a powder measure and started with the 52’s. Worked up a fairly good load and then it will be on to the 55’s, 69’s etc. Generally, I’m just ringing steel so 1/4 or 1/2 MOA isn’t a concern. So, I’d go with a ball powder for ease of loading.
