Another 98 Mauser build question....

So, I've been working for the last 6 months on building a nice express rifle in 375 H&H. While I've put the quarter rib, barrel band swivel and barrel band front sight on it, the truth is that those elements are primarily aesthetic. I still fully intend to mount a low power scope for hunting purposes. Currently everything is still in the white. I'm nearing the stage of getting ready for the slow rust bluing and need to resolve the scope mount dilemma. I've thought about machining a set of rings but.... Seems a shame to put all these hours into making the rifle look right, only to drill holes in the top of the action and mount a set of Weaver bases. Surely there's a better, more classic way of mounting a scope. I didn't use the word 'elegant', but the word did cross my mind.

Any help, guidance, assistance or quality counsel is much appreciated.

Thank you

Michael

Suppose you could weld bases on, but would require re-heat treating. Nothing wrong with D&T receiver as long as it's done right -- on center and stay out of the lug abutment area on the front ring.

I have several photos of various ones on my Mauser's. Too large to post, but pm an email address. I have them integral, damascus, and other styles.

Larry Potterfield built a Safari rifle, but on a 700 action. Process & procedures are the same. Check him out on Youtube. Good videos.

That's pretty funny. I was just watching one of Uncle Larry's videos on oil stock finishing when I saw your message! Thank you, Sir.
