Another 6BR Lapua brass Question

I have 2 boxes (new stuff) of Lapua 6BR brass that I am FFing into beautifull Dasher casses. The boxes were bought together, but are different lot numbers. I plan on doing SOME sorting..not sure exactly what or how yet.

Question.....would you keep them seperate, or just throw them together and sort from there ....maybe :-[

4x,

check them out individually, and see how close they are. I've seen some lots that were notably differnt from others, while some are nearly identical. Need to know what you've got with these two individual lots. Check not only case weights, but capacity, neck thickness and concentricity, and that should give you a good place to start. Once you've done that, you can make a much more informed decision about whether or not to mix them, and sort from there.

+ 1 on Kevin's advice, although I can't comment on recent 'Blue-Box' 6BR lot to lot consistency. You usually get some variation between production lots in things like neck thickness, and there may also be some in things you can't see or easily measure such as shoulder and neck hardness.

Personally, I try to keep all my long-range match cases segregated by lot as well as the number of firing / loading cycles, and will only mix the rejects / practice / load development / short-range brass.

For what it's worth, the greatest achieving short-range Benchrest shooter of all time, Tony Boyer does not sort his Lapua brass by weight [page 141 of his new book]. He does say, however, that if he were shooting very long range that he would. Doing all of the sorting either before, or all of the sorting after case preparation was completed.
