I am in process of putting together a S/A magazine fed 6.5/284 based on Lapua Brass and 139 Lapua's.Max OAL for magazine is 2.820 so I'm looking at cutting chamber so that a 2.80 cartridge will be AT the lands when chambered. My measurements indicate that a Lapua case with 139 seated at 2.80 still provides 59.9g H2O capacity.
I'll be skim turning necks and will be using K&M tool to remove any possible doughnut buildup.
My question......Has anyone shot this round with such a short throat/deep seated bullet and achieved 2950FPS with good accuracy??
I have been shooting a 260AI,55.0g H2O) for years single load but found at an OAL length of 2.80 the required powder is too compressed, even if I load it to 2.820.
Before I try this I would like to hear from others who have.
Thanks in advance
Gord
