Annealing brass

How much does annealing help brass life ? Just resized some used 6.5-284 Winchester brass to straight 284 and had some cases crack at top and bottom of neck. This brass was originally 284 win brass that I made to 6.5 and now resizing back. Wondered if annealing would prevent this. Could be due to used a few times and sized down then back up. Any suggestions would help.

I have not done this but I think the general consensus I have seen is if you do resizing from one caliber to another, you should definitely anneal before doing so.

I've read some blogs as such but just hoping for some hands on input. I'm sure the hardness of my brass is causing the splitting. It's relatively new, maybe 3 times fired and not hot loads.
