animal calls/feeders/bait stations

My cousin is an avid hunter, myself, not so much. Just wondering if you all consider calls, feeders, and bait stations ethical? To make it clear I am not anti-hunting just against poaching. Last month some idiots shot a buck and skull capped it, dumped the body in a drainage ditch. That case is still open. Hope they are caught and brought to justice.

Ethical and legal are not the same. Legal is easy to define , ethics are moral principles often based on local practices/actions. I would argue that if you're obeying laws relating to your activity, ethics are not part of the equation(except possibly on a individual level).

In my particular state, IN, you cannot hunt deer over bait. Food plots coming from the ground are allowed. I am fine with this as is, hunting deer at feeders or over bait is not proper.

Now calling is different. For turkey, a call is huge asset. As for hunting crows, is it the best way to get them to come in. I do not lose any sleep over calling crows in and whacking them provided it is in the season, same with turkey.

It is like this, follow the game regs. They are there to keep the resource here for coming generations so we can continue to hunt and exercise our right to keep & bear arms.

P.S. the POS who shot the deer & dumped it deserves jail time & to lose his hunting privileges.

yes. in his opinion calls for certain animals like turkeys are fine. did not think much of feeders/bait stations. kind of like cheating on an exam. unfair advantage.

That what I thought. Good, everybody has one. Personally, it doesn't matter to me, I don't care one way or the other. Many bait, many don't. But I'll say this one of the places I hunted for years in S.C. bordered a hunt club that was 8 point or better. We harvested many of those bucks that they were not shooting.
I'm strictly a meat hunter. We shot plenty of does also. Good tasting.

Never really saw much difference in corn standing and corn dumped on the ground, myself. Or, hunting near an oak tree for that matter. It's up to the individual where legal.

Your State's Game laws dictate the legality of using bait. One should always obey the Game Laws.

Ethical is an individual value judgement. When I was a "rat" hunter, we used bait. The Donut Shop owner was very happy to see me and my friend work over the rats in the back of his shop with our 22 rifles.

Trying to hunt predators or turkeys without some sort of game call is like playing the Lotto - good luck with that!

I can see the use of bait for critters like rats. I've heard peanut butter is a good choice. I would say where legal it would be up to the individuals if it was ethical. I'm fairly certain baiting is illegal throughout California. Of course I could be wrong. Laws do and often get changed regarding hunting regulations.
