AMT 450-SS rifle actions??

Or may be SS-450. Single shot, right bolt, right port. Anyone know anything about these? Price? Any good? It was made in California and has a serial number of 000269 or so.
thanks,
Bill

They were suppose to be a good custom action, but no longer made. If you can get parts, would be ok. I think the foot print is the same as Rem. 700. If you do not get enough information here, go to Benchrest.com, they may be able to help you.

I have one that I first acquired as a 223 prone rifle. I went to checking around and found the gunsmith who originally built the rifle and found out he built many of the rifles which used the AMT actions. I also found out that he had some spare bolts, firing pins etc. I bought all the bolts, shrouds, and pins he had. I ended up selling all but one extra bolt set-up and now have a switch barrel 223-6mmbr. It is a very nice set up and I don't think you will be dissatisfied should you decide to purchase it. It is well made, designed and smooth to operate. The tolerances and dimensions seem appropriate for a custom action. Hope this helped.

Thanks people. I forgot about Benchrest Central and found some good info after doing a search there.

Do they have the same threads as a Remington?

I found the rifle in Gander Mountain of all places. I was in a hurry and was doing a quick check of the used rifles after getting my trout license. They had just put it out on the used rack and the thing had a McMillan hunter benchrest stock, the AMT action, and a fat 22BR stainless barrel for $1199. I looked it over fast and placed the 20% down for a lay-away, figuring I could always back out and lose just the $25 store policy or use the money towards another gun, as per store policy. On the drive home I wondered if the action was glued in, what the twist was, what kind of trigger was in it, the bolt face looked to be possibly missing its extractor, and on and on? Neither they nor I have a bore scope and they know nothing about the gun or its round count.

Right now I’m leaning towards paying it off, keeping it, and using it. Any insights either way would be appreciated.

I've got one built up in a 6.5-284 with a Shehane tracker stock. Footprint is not exactly the same as a Remington as it's longer from the front lugs forward than the Rem700, does have a Rem tang on it though. Mine is a RBRP stainless singleshot, serial #00047X. The biggest issue I had on mine was bases. The action is round front and back unlike the Rem and it had hole spacing like the Rem but with 8-40 threaded holes. I had to take a pair of front Rem bases, re-drill one for the rear and contersink all for the bigger 8-40 screws, a real PIA.

Chuck, a gentleman who has been very helpful has emailed me that Remington 7400 bases work.

I paid for it today and found the name and number of the original builder in an envelope that was with it. Thing has only 15 rounds through it, a tight neck, 14 twist, no recoil lug, a Shilen trigger set @ 2#, & the man has brass, dies, & some extras that he's going to round up and offer for sale.
I'm happy and as excited as a pig in the mud.
