Ammo recommendations

Looking to put in some time with my 52D and Anny 54, just wondering what ammunition everyone is running that's yielding the best bang for the buck. I've put RWS, Federal Match, and a little Eley through both rifles, but never paid much attention on the accuracy. (Micrometer wise) Read that Eley Tenex is one of the best heavy hitters, just hard to find in stock. Thanks in advance for any help.

If you aren't planning to test ammo to find what your rifle likes, I'd start with Lapua CenterX. I don't know of a rifle that hasn't shot it well and the lots we've tested showed good accuracy for the price.

On the low end (price wise) Wolf ME does well in most of the rifles I've tried it in. The 2 dedicated target guns both use lot tested Eley BB.

Jeremy,
I see you wrote you've tried "Federal Match" already. But was it Federal Ultra Match UM22 or the cheaper stuff? UM 22 worked very well for me in my Anschutz and won me a few matches. The other that I used to warm up with and practice was Lapua CenterX which was also a very accurate bullet. None of the Eley's worked as well in my rifle, but some have had great success in their rifles.

a lot of my info has been mentioned already but try cci standard, if it shoots well in your rifle it is economical to shoot. Also wolf, R50, CENTER X and midas plus which is the ammo cooper shoots their proof targets with. Also if you have deep pockets Federal ultra match and Eley Tenex about 20 dollars a 50 round box.

Champion's Choice seems to stock all the above ALL the time. Even in the shortage times they seem to have them. Prices are better than most as well.
RWS R50 and R100 have worked exceptionally well for me.

Just a thought, whatever brand of ammo you end up trying, different lots can give vastly differing results.

Truth. I bought a brick or R50 that won't shoot worth spit, after having previously having great success with R50. You can hear the dud rounds. I don't know if it's inconsistent primer or powder but it is pure crap ammo, as verified by my chrono. Rimfire ammo frustrates me.

I shot a 200 yard match this summer in New Mexico. It was at 8000' and in the timber; wind was impossible to read as it blew two directions in that 200 yards. I tried every bullet I could get my hands on. I did my testing in a 200 yard tunnel to eliminate the wind factor. I found Eley Tenex and Match identical and much better than anything else at anything past 75 yards. I used Eley Match and won. I shot a 40 yard match which did not allow optics and used R50 to win that one in a different rifle. Interestingly enough, R50 was the next most accurate bullet in the CZ i used for the 200 yard match. A 1" 5-shot group was the best I could do in that wind.

Close range, I could have used Wolf just as easily as the R50. The expensive RWS stuff was not very good in any of my rifles. I spend several hundred dollars just testing ammo. It was a good experiment.

Hmm; interested in a wager? 100 round ammo test at 100 yards - your best of the best SK Pistol Match against my ammo? I won't even sort mine. :-)

The SK I've tested will shoot decent groups; until you find one of the surprises hidden in the box.

If I'm going to cherry pick groups, here is mine. Shot prone no less.

Who said anything about cherry picking. I am doing mine with a 10/22. What gun are you using? Go shoot 2 1" stickers in consecutive order at 100yds for 5 shots ea and don't cut targets and leave intact so you can see 2 5 shot groups. See if you can not miss 1"sticker on any of the shots. I have put 4 shots with this gun into .210ctc. I will eventually get a real good one. 20160915_135328.jpg 20160915_140103.jpg
