American Marksman - Innovative Shooting Competition

American Marksman is a new, nationwide amateur shooting competition! American Marksman is owned and operated by The Outdoor Channel and will eventually lead into a TV show with the winner receiving a $50,000 Grand Prize.

The way this works is you register at www.AmMarksman.com and participate at a local qualifying range between March 1st and May 31st. You can find the local qualifying range closest to you at www.AmMarksman.com. The competition is a modified postal match. At the local level a shooter will choose either .22 Pistol, Rifle, or both and will get 2 chances at the course of fire per each firearm selected. For one firearm its $20 and for both it is only $35!

If you do well enough and progress into the regional competition you will get to shoot multiple different firearms and calibers, all of which WE will provide at that level!

One of the major draws of this competition is that it is amateur shooters only. No one who has ever been paid, sponsored, or finished in the top 10% in a national championship is eligible to participate. We know there are GREAT amateur shooters all across America! We've designed the local course of fire to be a low barrier of entry but still difficult and challenging. It is so much fun being put under the pressure, testing your skills with a timer, and having the thought of getting $50,000 dollars in your head. If we can get more people involved in the sports we love and the life style we all immerse ourselves in, we all win!

We have 4 divisions:
Men's open (17+)
Women's open (17+)
Youth (12-16)
Military/Law Enforcement

Do any of you think you have what it takes to be the FIRST American Marksman?
I would love to answer more questions if any of you have any!

I think its 30ft,one thing to note. If you really know any thing about marksmanship you are dis qualified

A .22 rifle at 30 feet and the bullseye is 2.66". (From their FAQs)

The Rimfire Benchrest community laughs....

So for $35 bucks, you get a target? Or do you provide that, too? Let me think, here. Say a 100,000 people try it. $3.5 million to join and they pay out $50,000? Wow! Great business model.

The competition is intended for amateur shooters of all ages. The competition at the local level is intended to be simple. The goal is to introduce as many amateur shooters to competitive shooting as possible. Once you qualify for the regional competition, you will shoot a variety of different guns with more complex courses of fire.

Looking over the Rules/Guidelines on Amateur versus Professional it does not mention any NRA or CMP Matches, nor Benchrest.....so I think everyone should sign up......

Look again at those rules Mike - top 10% of classified shooters excludes many of us. Pretty much anyone with a High Master classification is out of luck...

Based on pistol skills in the Pro/Am Guidelines, I'm out :(. I'm betting this may not be the best place to advertise this type of event.

If this is not geared towards existing competitive shooters, why is it being posted in a competitive shooting forum. o_O

Im trying to figure out where you qualify besides clicking on each clubs logo to figure out where they are!! There needs to be a list by state at least

I was referring to this rule:

No one that has ever been ranked in the top 10% of any national competitive shooting organization’s classification system may compete. As mentioned above, for USPSA, rule extends to the top 15%.

I still cant figure out where the matches will be
somewhere on the site it has a list of all participating ranges and the hours you can go tryout. tryouts are open from march - may on certain days at all the listed ranges. I did a little research after i signed up. As for the placing in the top 10 percent rule, I believe thats only in a national event. I emailed them about finishing 2nd and 3rd in IBS matches last year and they said i was good to go. From the looks of the standings on the site, only about 50 people have even went and shot.
