Amazing live hi speed video of barrel harmonics

That was interesting. What folks do with time and cash.

You can see the bbl harmonics on the rifles we shoot if you have the right set up. Our group has an old unlimited benchrest, return to battery rig. Barrel blocks were machined to take several of the bbl contours we shoot. Put the bbl'ed action in the rig and test fire away. With any bbl over 28 inches, you can visibly see the bbl vibrate up, down, all-around. Shoulder fired, you never see it, but in a rest it is very obvious.

On heavy calibers with scopes that have long tubes forward of the front scope mount, the scope flexes just like the bbl does. Makes you realize how much beating scopes actually take.

Hmmmm??? That "barrel whip" is not the harmonics being address with tuners. The harmonics addressed by tuners is a whole lot faster and smaller than that barrel whip and lots of SMALL movement (high frequency oscillations) long before the bullet exits.

Whatever you want to call it it’s amazing.
Really amazing is that I can shoot any group!
Thanks for the video.
I consider that money well spent as I never dreamed it could be that much.

It is amazing how much the barrel moves. Tim Sellars on a podcast "Believe the Target" with Erik Cortina explains that the barrel actually tries to wrap around the stock.

Tim's appearance on Eric's podcast was fun to watch. Tim introduced me to reloading in the late 90's and he has been a mentor for me in that regard as he was the one to introduce me to the idea of harmonics and finding the right nodes in my handloads to try and match the barrel whip among other things.

I have had the pleasure of being Tim's trigger man in many of his "experiments" over the years, shooting his loads and guns to confirm what he had come up with, it was a real hoot.

He's very knowledgeable in the matter, almost to the point of being a mad scientist without the lab coat, and his opinions have ruffled the feathers of many degreed experts in the world of firearms accuracy.

Absolutely, there are only a few of those podcast that I would rank in the same league as with Tim but none are as in depth with Tuners & Harmonics as his. I go back often and watch segments of it to see if I hear anything I may have missed. LOL.

Tim is a wealth of knowledge and his time with tuners and harmonics go back 20+ years. I have had a front row seat and a place on the stage for much of what he has done and talked about with Eric.
I wish I had written down or recorded all he has told me over the years, it would be like knowing the secret formula to coca-cola or the colonel's secret recipe. LOL
