Amax blowing up?

Yes, I'm sure I will. But it's an added reason for thinking about trying five or six groove types. Also, I've never had a 3-groove job, but have heard of really good results from some.

I have seen 6.5 Amax's blow up at a F Class match 2 years ago, at 1K they didn't make the 800 yard line, just a gray streak and a puff about 150 yards out. The shooter blamed a worn throat and a hot load.

SP the 3 and 4 grooves barrel are awesome barrels. They perform great in just about everyway but you have found they're achilles with this problem. This problem only occurs when you are trying to run heavy bullets down a fast twist barrel. If this was a 9 twist you would have no problems at all. I have noticed this enough that i can say that im 99% sure that this is your problem. You would be best to switch to a heavier jacketed bullet and your problem SHOULD go away. The reason that i can come up with is that there is such a fast twist in combination with a extra wide engraving being done to the bullet having less grooves is just enough to tear the jacket apart. Good luck with this. If you need any help my phone is always on. 406 660 0688.

Notaguru, as I suspected. The main reason that I focused on the Amax was that I was seeing "lots" of copper at the muzzle. Even with Ws2, way too much copper left behind. After just 10 rounds, the barrel looked like I had been shooting all day.
In going back to my Sierra load, I find "0" copper in the same area. Havent shreaded 1 bullet due to this "jacket smearing" business. I use "smearing" because I suspect that is what is happening from a mechanical stand point. More copper in the bore than on the bullet.

Yes there could be several reasons. Heated core or just to much stuff either way im glad that you have something you can fall back on. some of them just have problems with a lot of bullets and can be a major pain. Good luck.
