Aluminum bedding block?

I am building a custom hunting rifle and in looking at a new stock I was wondering if having the bedding block is better or worse than a stock without one? I plan on glass bedding which ever stock I go with.
Thanks in advance
John

My experience has been that the bedding block always requires modification to get the barreled action in straight and level...it requires milling to get it true. On top of that, they need a skim coat of epoxy for best results. IMHO pillars and the entire action bedded is the best for accuracy and keeping POI.

Bedding blocks usually mean the rifle is a single shot after bedding, and a pound heavier. There was a company that made a stock with a milled out block, that still kept the magazine, but my senile brain can't remember the name. Maybe someone can help with the company name??

Accurate Innovations makes high quality laminate and solid wood stocks with a full length aluminum chassis installed. I've used several of them and have never had to bed one to reach 1/2 moa accuracy.

They are in Andrews, North Carolina, and have a website with pictures of some of their stocks. They are pricier than some composite stocks, but have the chassis and pillar blocks already installed.

And the Whidden V Blocks "do" have a mag well cut. Metal to metal mounting works best. No worries about the skim bed going away. Action goes back in the same place everytime you take it out. ;)

I built a 308 2 years ago that sits in an H-S stock with aluminum bedding block. maybe i got lucky -- i just dropped it in and it shoots 1/4 MOA all day long.

Actually, if you use the Whidden V Block, just bed the block/action all at once and they'll be mated.

I make my own block for the Striker, and bed it when I set the pillars, absolute mate.
