Alternatives (Airguns) w/updates

I have Feinwerkbau 300s rifle and Feinwerkbau Model 80 pistol. Just changed all seals and springs on both guns. Both are more than enough for shooting on backyard, once again both guns are more accurate than shooter :)

For those that like to tinker with chit, check out pressure regulators. Fairly easy to install. Reduces ES and SD by a bunch. I'm currently playing with a .177 Disco/Maximus/Prod hybrid. Something new to try. Here's the numbers shot over a MS, using 16.2 grain JSB Beast pellets, 3000 psi initial fill: W/O Reg: 1000, 997, 991, 974, 947, 1029, 987, 971, 974 and 946. AVG 981; Hi 1029; Lo 946; ES 83; SD 25. With Reg set at 2100psi: 881; 883; 880; 880; 882; 883; 883; 882; 882; 881; AVG: 881; Hi 883; Lo 880; ES 3; SD 1. Here are some pics:IMG_20210406_210515.jpgIMG_20210406_210400.jpgIMG_20210406_210421.jpg

Top pic is the regulator. Second pic is the main components, Third pic shows the difference between ths stock gage port adapter vs Marauder pistol gage port adapter (more flow). Bottom pic shows a standard installation rod and a modified extended rod. the modified version is handy for pulling the reg out for tuning adjustments. The downside of the regulator is you lose about 50-100 fps. Doesn't make much difference in accuracy at 10 yards, but, at 50 vertical is only about 1/4". the regulators are available for many brands and models. Currently on sale on eBay for $85.56. (usually $92) I've bought a couple at $78. The brand is Altaros. Made in the Czech Republic. Note: you need to install upgraded high strength screws that secure the power valve if you want to go to 3000psi on a Disco. Mike

Like you I purchased a pellet rifle a few months ago to combat ammo and component shortages. I chose a Diana/RWS 54 springer which has a "recoil-less" action mounting system which allows a hard hold and use of a bipod without a sacrifice in accuracy. Speaking of accuracy, the modern pellet rifles are amazing.

Charlie, good info. I like to near about air gun improvements. I suspect other members are too. I am opening this thread up to ALL THINGS AIRGUN RELATED. Yeah, I know there are airgun forums ,but, some of us are not interested in joining another forum. I know there are members on here that have forgot more about airguns than I know.

For those of you on the fence about airguns, I'll give a couple of examples on what airguns can do for you. About ten years ago, I finally had tweaked an airgun that would shoot one ragged hole, if I didn't suck. Went to the range one day to do some CF rifle load development. I couldn't find my ass with both hands. Had three guns to shoot and what should have been good results from precise hand loading were horrible. Got home. Broke out the airgun. Lo and behold, my known, one hole airgun was now a shotgun. WTF? Took me about 50 rounds to settle down and start putting them in one hole. Now, before I go to the range, I shoot an airgun to verify I won't be wasting my time and components at the range. Next, for those of you with a flinch, I had one. Notice I said HAD ONE. Not anymore. Shot a whole lotta airgun rounds during this Rona crap. The flinch is gone. I am elated.

I would like to hear about all the new cool chit. Spingers, PCP, CO2, etc. Hope others are too. Mike

Mike: I too have an RWS Model 54 springer. With the Sightron 10-50 MOH scope it weighs over 13#. It is a beast to cock and has to be taken out of the front rest to do so. However, I got it for benchrest competition due to its accuracy. It has recoil even with its moving tracking mechanism. A much more pleasant and recoil free springer is the FWB 300. It too has a moving tracking mechanism with an easy to cock lever. These are old .177 cal 10 meter Olympic competition springers with fantastic accuracy. You probably know about them. They can still be bought for $450-650, but the prices are going up. I use it for benchrest competition, but @ 25 yds it is very susceptible to wind influence.

Either one is great for competition, but would not use them for hunting. My favorite hunting gun is an FX 400 Royale in .22 cal which has a magazine.

I still prefer PCP for both rifles and pistols due to lack of recoil and accuracy. Plus, the triggers are in ounces rather than lbs.

Chuck

Here's my favorite. A RAW(Rapid Air Weapons) TM1000 in .177 with a 4 ounce trigger wearing a Mueller 8-32X44 . Also my set up for shooting off a bucket & sticks. I can shoot out to 65 yards sitting in my garage or 100 yards from my side yard.

As has been said, once you get a PCP, there's no going back. My Daystate 40ft/lb Airwolf is simply death to anything inside 80yds long as it's not blowing badly and I have a decent rest. Last trip out to a bunny place, first victim was 83yds, cranked on the elevation and levelled it fair through the shoulder.
