Alternate powder choices in BRA..?

I have 6 different lots of H4895 and one struggled to hit 2900 also. Just maybe the lot of 140 is slow, saw vv133 had a lot that was only good for fire forming.... jim

I have a 3/4 full tub of N140, you might be right but it seemed to work ok in other calibers.

N150 certainly works well in 6BRA and has also worked well for me in a 6BR so Im more inclined to think thats the better option.

I guess its worth trying both if you have the option and decide for yourself.

do you guys think that 8208 and AR Comp are a little too fast for Berger 108's? I have some of both, I can try.

I have a 12 twist BRA that I shoot 80gr pills out of. In that barrel, my lots of 8208 and H4895, grain for grain, yield the exact same velocities. 8208 gets the accuracy nod.

I also shot a ladder with a new 8 twist Broughton 5C using 8208 and a BIB104. It behaved about like I would have expected it to with 4895. In the end, I’ve decided to try 4895 in this Broughton simply because the LGS has 8# jugs for $185 and didn’t have any 8208. I’m really hoping this barrel will want to shoot the 2,925-ish node, as that seems to be where many are shooting small - even at 1K. Should be easier on everything and more forgiving, too.

After going over this thread I'm starting to wonder why the lot to lot variation is so huge anymore ? No matter what powder, H4831 is about 3 gas slower than it was years ago. Varget is all over the place, now H4895 is the same. None seems to immune to this, no matter what company..... jim

thanks for the suggestions! 8208 XBR seems to be VERY good in my barrel. I was concerned about being too fast with the 108 having such a long baring surface. at 300 it was stacking bullet on top of bullet. I'm going to shoot in a 1000 yard Fclass match this weekend and see how it holds up. I'm sure it will be good as long as I can make perfect wind calls. I ended up retuning my barrel now with 1200 rounds with 4895. shot extremely well, but as the 100 degree plus days I was getting pressure spikes and weirdness was my reason for changing. new load is 29.64 grains, bullet 7k into the lands. average velocity with 28" barrel is 2885 fps.

Must be a fast lot of 4895, I'm shooting 31.1 at 2997 in a 28" barrel ..... jim

Now I got you, we are on the same page now. does it shoot good for you?.... jim

it is shooting extremely well at 300 bullet on top of bullet. Nice ragged bugholes. I'm going to shoot an Fclass match with it at 1000 this weekend. I built the rifle to be a 300 and 600 mid range fclass rifle, but my 1000 yard is in the shop getting overhauled with fresh barrel. so I gotta work extra hard with my wind calls :) should be fun!

So? How did it go?Couldn't see the fireworks from here. Maybe that's only at the WhiteSox games.
Thanks. John

It was super challenging...
197-10x
195-1x
193-4x
Quartering headwind and with quick velocity wind changes. And after looking at my targets it appears I forgot how to use those “clicky things” on my scope. I was hitting just out the bottom many times...! ;)

Here is my 1x relay...

It could have been nice had I known how to adjust my scope :D I somehow forgot :p

My sympathies. As I say I've made every mistake there is, sometimes 2 or 3 times over (and I ain't thru yet). Looking forward to your next win. This was the 8208xbr load?
Thanks John

Yes, I see that 1 0r 2 clicks up and maybe 1 left woulda yielded up a passel O Xs (1/8th moa clicks). Hindsight be twenytweny. Hope you take better notes than me as I might do that a couple more time b4 it sunk in.LOL

I'm new to the 6bra community and have no experience with it at all. I've been looking also for different powder choices for the 6br and the 6bra and I was wondering if anyone has tried N530 and if so how did it shoot and how did it group? I'm wanting to shoot 80 to 108 grain bullets. I have a 7.5 twist Krieger barrel. Load data would also be very appreciated.
