Alpha Brass 308 SRP FTR

Hello Everyone

Im currently immersed in the magical journey that is my first F Class FTR build.

I have my reamer/barrel/action currently at the gunsmiths, I'm currently looking at 308 SRP cases. My question is how many FTR shooters use the Alpha 308 SRP cases?

Ill add that my reamer is a no turn 0.342" neck to suit Lapua Palma cases, would this still work with Alpha?

Thanks all for your time and info.

There's no reason I can think of why the Alpha brass wouldn't work just great for you.

If you haven't see this comparison I've posted before, here's some .308 numbers you might find of interest:

Thanks for your replies.

@Straightshooter1 am I correct in thinking that a loaded neck diameter of the Alpha brass would be around 0.338? (Neck thickness 0.0150 x 2= 0.03" + 0.308= 0.338")

Also finding it interesting the extra weight of the Alpha cases. Is it harder to run bullets up to certain nodes with less case capacity?

Thanks again for a detailed response, really appreciated.

PS. Do you find you need any different FLS dies to help squeeze the Alpha brass at the base during sizing due to the thicker case heads? (I currently have in my possession Redding Type S 308 and a Type S 308 small base FLS dies)

Ill be using either CCI 450 or Remington 7 1/2 benchrest primers and Varget powder.

Starting with a good supply of 185 Juggernauts and then looking to move up to the 200's

Yes, .338 is what these numbers show.

Though with that thicker web, the case capacity isn't reduced much. Just trim and seat a little longer??? ;)

No difference in the dies I use. I use standard Forster FL sizing dies and the Alpha brass sized up nicely with no issues. The web area sized up to .468 just like my other brass had (Lapua and Peterson).

Im liking what I'm hearing. Thinking ill go with the Alpha and see how it goes

Am running tests now in my dasher with Norma brass. Small primers and small and larger flash holes
CCI 450 primers

I’ve used srp .308 down into the 10’s USING CCI450’s and was fine….. as were my srp dashers…..
the .#308 were Lapua AND STARLINE MY DSHERS WERE ALPHA
the .08 were Varget and dashers were re15.5

I do. .342 will fit a loaded round.

I have a .343 neck and have been using Alpha brass for about a year now. I started using Alpha when Lapua suspended production of 308 srp, (Palma) brass. I tried CCI BR4’s and Remington 7 1/2s with Juggernauts and Varget and found a good load with the BR4s. Well, good enough for me. I have some Lapua Palma brass, but I don’t know if I’ll go back. I’m working on 200.20x loads now and am happy with the results thus far.
