Rick, Thank you reaching out and it's great to hear the Dasher is working well. Is there a standard for the PPC of are the a bunch of different reamer prints?

I reached out to Tom at Alpha letting them know I liked their Dasher brass and thought there would be a market for 6ppc brass and explained the process of 200 Russian to 6ppc. The above is what he sent back to me. I don't have a print that I think would be a good average for commercial 6ppc brass to work with...... If someone here has something that would work well that they could send to Tom at Alpha, it seems like we may have a receptive ear for a source of quality 6ppc brass.

Regards
Rick

Isn't the SAMMI spec ARC so darn close to a PPC that it would be usable in a PPC?

CW
A great point and I’m wondering if the 6PPC-USA spec (was it CIP?) can be neck turned and sized down to suit match chambers. That’s my understanding of how match shooters used Norma 6PPC brass when they tested it against Lapua. There are still some 6PPC-USA chambers floating around and I believe it’s the largest of these. (We are talking thousandths of course).

I guess I need to dig out my chamber diagrams and study them a bit more.

My loaded round with the Norma was .265. It would be nice if they spec’d the brass off of the Norma but making the neck .003 or so thicker for a .271 no turn reamer.
My loaded neck diameter with Norma is .265 as well with a neck wall thickness of .011.

There you go, compare away. CIP 6mm PPC, SAAMI 6mm ARC, PPC Bore Rider print just for fun and the ever popular JGS 1045.

What is a bore rider?
CW
A parallel/cylindrical section approximately half height of the lands is removed for a short length after a traditional throat. Very similar to if not the same as the +P throating from Defensive Edge.

Circled area is an example. Traditional throat @ .3048" dia & 1°-30 angle transitioning into a section directly after @ .304" dia with a 1°-30 angle into the bore. I've seen the bore rider section very short to as in this one very long. I've seen different transition angles printed too. I've never seen a Defensive Edge so I don't know how long of a section they are doing. Their design has been patented. I believe Unknown Munitions are doing some +P now so I assume they've licensed it from DE.

It is really close
close enough to work well if Lapua would make it
its about .050 or so longer to the shoulder than most PPC designs

sorry Evan posted while I was typing
And shorter overall length. I suspect you could make very good 6ARC brass from PPC brass and still have enough for a full length neck.

All that said, Alpha 6BRA brass won’t shoot in a normal 6BRA because the .200 line dia is set to the CIP spec and won’t stretch without bolt thrust or rupture. So asking Alpha to navigate the chamber size difference between 6PPC and 6PPC-USA seems like asking for trouble.
