Alliant Powder -- Availability Concerns

None whatsoever. I haven't seen Norma powders in years.

I had mine given too me by a now deseased friend.
Yes. Hard to find. I've got appx 1.5 lb but just purchased 2 lb from a guy on GunPost. If I could find a few more #'s I'd be good. Last I got was from Henry at Budget.

I've been using up all my current stock of CFE 223, CFE BLK and Benchmark powders PDn for the last two years.... all Hodgdon powders.

I'll start on some older jugs next year...H380, 760, H414, IMR4198, etc. Not all are an ideal match but fortunately I have some real old loading manuals to find loads for 223, 222, 6BR with those oldies but goodies. I still have 4-5 pounds of Accurate/Western powders left for the 20 VT that will work well.

I figure I've got enough of those older powders to last two years @ 3000-5000 rounds per year....maybe three years if I can repurpose some other old powders in the cabinet.

I'll be switching to VV as needed ....they have treated hand loaders well over this last shortage....and my small contribution to their revenue stream will be my way of saying thank you.

It all makes me wonder if the deceased founders of privately held American gun/powder/bullet companies would be proud or sad regarding the current state of their brainchild.

I'm going to keep using it where I think it will benefit my outcome. What other powder will give you an extra 100 fps with the same accuracy using the same amount of powder? I use other powders for shorter ranges, 800 yards and less.

I love reloder 7 in my 458 win mag. And 19 in my 338.
23 was my go to in my 300 wsm and 257 Roberts.
Pp2000 in 308 and light bullet 338.
15 in my 375 h&h

With the price per lb on some of those goin 80-85$ it just makes it very unattractive.

Ive been looking at ramshot stuff for some and vihtavuori now for others

I was a dedicated DuPont IMR/Hercules guy back in the day. Now not so much.

I use mostly VV stick powders and WW ball powders now days. That is also what seems to be most available.

Still using Reloader powders that say Hercules on the label. They were getting low right before the stupid hit the fan a few years back & was able to restock the important ones. Especially Alliant, but also IMR/Hodgdon have priced themselves out of any further purchases for me. We wont get into what I think about Vista's price manipulation to get more out of the sale to the Czech fellow, or H's near monopoly that smells a lot like what the oil companies did in the early '70s to get around Nixon's price freeze. Accurate (see Hodgdon monopoly) extruded seems to be creeping upwards too.

I'll use up what I have & move on to whatever's the best deal when a need to buy arises again. The VV stash has grown over the last few years. Not much of a ball powder fan, but Ramshot has a few very useful numbers too. The Staball stuff shoots OK at 100yds, but I haven't managed to get the ignition to settle down to reasonable #s. Haven't worked very hard at it either. Maybe if 215s ever come back at under $75/1000. Those White River Magnum LRs seem pretty warm...

I'm well into senior menu territory, so maybe wont need to buy much more. Not much concern at all. Sure do wish I had snagged more 7828 before it disappeared though..

I have enough 2400, Unique, & Promo to shoot my handguns for a least 5 years. I never used much of their stuff for rifles.
