Alliance Rifle Club Malvern OH - Update

I have family that lives up close to this club (within 1 hour), so plan on going up there this weekend to try to shoot in their Palma match on Saturday and their LR/MR match on Sunday. I have a pm in to the club secretary with specific questions, but I am just curious about this range.

Has anyone shot there and how is it? Is there a lot of wind, how are the mounds, how are the people, is it easy to get to, etc..

Thanks to anyone who has been there and cares to comment.

Re: Alliance Rifle Club Malvern OH

The club is very nice to shoot at. There can be a lot of wind depending on the day (it may look enclosed but because of the terrain it can be a bit tricky). The mounds are covered in grass and the people are easy to get along with. I would suggest you go. BUT, the range can be hard to find! Look on Google maps to be sure you know where you are going. You'll need to drive behind the wood mill to get to the range. Instructions are on the website.

Good luck

Re: Alliance Rifle Club Malvern OH

That is my home range and everyone is very helpful and polite. This range stresses safety more that a lot of places I have shot. If you shoot a 94%+ score on that range, you earned it! A great place with equally good people, I'm sure you will like it.
I hope this helps,
Lloyd

Thanks for the replies.

Plan on going, gonna be pretty chilly on Sunday now, it looks.

Thanks again and I am still happy to hear from others that have shot there.

I did make it to ARC for the weekend shoots.

Saturday was the Palma shoot with 8 people showing up to shoot in the 40 degree temperature and 20 mph gusts. It was a very challenging day to shoot. Kudos to the match directors for running a nice match.

Sunday was a MR/LR shoot with all other shooters showing up shooting midrange. That led me to shooting MR and I used my LR .284 Win to shoot MR for the first time. The high temperature during this match was 23 degrees with again winds 10-15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. We also had snow for most for the relays. Boy was it a cold day to shoot. Again, the match directors ran a smooth/fast match with 6 shooters showing up to shoot.

Regarding the range, it is hard to find, so if you plan to go there to shoot, make sure you leave some extra time to find the driveway as there is no signage for the range. The pits and firing points are very nice. The range itself is very tricky as there was no mirage this weekend because it was cloudy/cold. The flags are little help because they are too short and down in the valley of the range versus being up higher where the influential wind flows. The flags do not show any trends and even the seasoned shooters at ARC could not give any insight into which flags/conditions were important to watch/shoot. There were multiple examples of windage 8s with no noticeable changes in flags/conditions followed by 10/X on next shot with no sighting changes.

Thanks again for the people that showed up to shoot making the outsider feel like part of the gang. If anyone gets a chance to make it to ARC for a shoot, I would recommend it without hesitation, just expect to get your butt whooped.

Just my take on my weekend for those interested.
