Allen Head Action Screws for Cooper Rifles

I have a Cooper M21 for which I'd like to substitute Allen head action screws for the slotted head screws the rifle came with. Does anyone know who might be able to provide these?

The screws should be pretty easy to find if you know the thread specifications
I've had difficulty in tracking down what I want. I believe the specs are 1/4"-28. They have to have a countersunk head to fit the bottom metal holes properly, and the tops of the heads are not quite flat--with a slight curvature. I'd like to find either Allen drive or Torx. The length can be made right by cutting down longer screws if I can find the latter. They need to be either blued steel or black oxide SS.

You should look at the action screws for a Remington 700. I used them on my "40x project - phase 2" and you can see the heads in the pics on my thread down in the Gunsmithing forum.

Midways PN for SS are 156089 for the rear which is app 1.560" long and 125211 for the front which is 1.225. The blue PN for the rear is 435834 which is the same length as the SS but the front blue they show is 961867 which is listed as being 1.063". You should check the catalog to verify the pns.

Greetings,
BAT Machine makes / sells the nicest SS Allen head action screws I have ever used. The socket is quite deep compared to any I have seen. They come in 3 different lengths. Well worth a look.

John, that's a good lead. I checked it out and found that they have black SS as well as silver. I'd need the black ones for them to blend in. The only possible problem is that by cutting them to the right lengths, I might be left with too few threads.

This is where I got mine from quite a while back.

You might want to call them and ask as I don`t see them listed anymore.

Seems to me that one of the rim fire accessory guy`s offers them, J`N P might know who that is.....

1/4X28, I used two Rem 700 long screws ,and cut them. It was a Cooper MODEL 21 single shot. Got mine from BAT.. Stockys has them too. Just my two cents.. Tommy Mc

Yes, I contacted J&P and was told that they no longer make them for Cooper rifles.

I have some Rem 700 screws and could, I guess cut and use them. However, the amount needed to be cut from the shorter front action screw would leave me with only about 4 threads for engagement. Not sure that that's enough. In addition, on the M21, there's a third, middle, screw that holds down the front of the trigger guard (a wood screw I think).

use the original bolt as a reference then you will be spot on... you sexy thang

I purchased some custom action allen-head screws and inserts for a Cooper 38 Action from a guy on the Saubier website who was making them. Perhaps he makes them for the model 21? I'll send you his contact info.
