All things considered, best 7mm F class round?

In my experience fouling depends more upon the barrel than anything else.

Steve; Never had a problrm with fouling with my 7 SAUM. I have 2 barrels for mine. One is for HG BR the other is for F/Open. I still run some wet patches and a nylon brush through the bore at the end of the day, just to get the powder fouling out. R25 is kind of dirty. My barrels seem to shoot their best scores in the last relay of the match.

Jeff; My first 7 SAUM was 28" and my 2 new barrels are 30". Both are Kreiger 1 in9. Got the 180 Bergers to 2980 with the 28" tube. Used the same load in the 30" tube and it shot pretty good at the 1K NBRSA Nationals. But the load didn't shoot as well in the FClass barrel. Lost a bunch of points at Raton that I shouldn't have. I don't have a range to test at distance so the next 2 matches I shot half the course with a load .5 grains higher. The hotter load averaged 5 or 6 points more per relay.
Got some case head expansion with the hotter load, but it might be due to the cases being on their 5th reload.
So it seems to me that a 28" tube is all you need. Gonna set back the FClass tube after Lodi.
By the way. Let me know when your gonna shoot in Boulder. We'll send some lead down range together. I could use the practice!

Bolo

There is a 1,000 yard regional match at Boulder City R & P on Friday February 8th. I'll be there with my 7WSM and the new 28" long-throated barrel. Bring out your SAUM and we'll launch some pills. I'm trying to get my brother to come out too - he'll be using his .308.

As for controlling fouling, try this.

Shoot the equivalent of one or two relays noting accuracy levels.

Run a few DRY patches down the bore. The first patches will be black with powder soot but end a light grey.

Shoot and see if the accuracy level stays the same.

I have found this takes little time and keeps my pipes shooting at acceptable levels.

Hope this helps...

Jerry, I'll have to try that at the State Palma. I'll run a couple of patches through before the 1K each day. Just hope Mariah is in a good mood.

Jeff, I'm pretty sure I got the 8th off from work. Yippeeeee!!! It will be my first rounds down range since November. Just send me the info on registration and directions. Looking forward to seeing you on the line.

Bolo, if you have cleaned properly, the next shot will be dead on for zero. It takes a bit of playing around to find what you barrel likes. Simple enough to figure out.

Good luck with your shoot.

Still well below freezing up here.
