All Shoters: Why do you shoot/compete?

I ask this question to better understand what brings us out to the Range. I operate Cool Acres located in Ga. and strive hard to provide a Safe, fun and positive experience for all the shooters. Hopefully I can obtain some feedback here that will assist growth at this range as well as others. Also if you shoot f-class, Prs, Benchrest or some other format please share and tell what you like about it?
Thanks
Eric

I've been shooting 600 yard bench rest for about 7 years, and two years ago began a series of monthly 300 yard matches at our club.

I enjoy the fellowship with the people I associate with there. Like Norm above, I also am challenged to improve and better my "game" in the process of competing with others. I'm retired, and the shooting along with the reloading assures that I always have useful things to do.

Also, as I told my wife recently: "It keeps me humble."

I got burned out of competition anything after shooting USPSA for a LOT OF YEARS. Unfortunately in any sport or other endeavor for that matter, there is politics and cheating. I saw a ton of it and got fed up with all the BS. I shoot now for pure recreation and fellowship. I enjoy it more. The pursuit of bugholes with a rifle is fun too. I shoot skeet and other shotgun sports and at my age wonder if I will every break 25 straight.

I have been shooting since I was in grade school. Either just shooting targets out in the woods or hunting. I have always loved it. For many years I got out of the sport living in California and only got back into it when we moved back to the PNW in 2010. Found I still love the art of trying to make a single hole, regardless if it is hand gun or rifle, sport or competition.
Last year I got into F-Class at a local range. This is only mid range (500 yards) but I love it. I enjoy the science and detail around precision reloading and the art of shooting.

My wife won't let me go to the bar and shoot pool anymore, she says I flirt with the Ladies too much so that leaves fishing and guns

I love the camaraderie and the "Spirit of Competition" that naturally emanates from people who love competition. I think that "Generally" shooters are the best group of competitors going. Most are always willing to help with wind-reading, loading etc..etc.. Great fun!

I just started center fire the end of last season. I'm really competing against myself. I enjoy meeting new ppl.
Being newer it's important the range officer is being real clear. One of the ranges I go to (1k) they talk so fast and do not call the relay # (because they are not sure what relay it is ?) It's going to the end of my list to go to.
The lack of communication adds to my confusion and causes me to have to stay in constant aware of the stride of the whole match mode....I miss out on meeting others and such.

1. competition. I thrive on it. Losing means you have work to do. Winning means you have even more work to do.

2. Camaraderie. there is nothing better than being around people who enjoy what your doing as much as you do.

Challenge. doing what we do in all the long precesion rifle sports is not easy. competing is difficult, winning is even more.

This pretty much says it all for me. I do have to add it's my relief and keeps me from being an a$$hole at home too, lol.

Who does the laundry?
Me, been doing it for 50 years. Turn machine on, throw in some soap, throw in armful of clothes, go reload,
throw them in dryer, go shoot, take out of dryer and throw clothes on couch so you will know where they are when you need them

I started competing because competition provides a structured backdrop for my personal improvement as a marksman. Over time, it's become something of a social thing as well. I've met so many good people that half the reason I go to matches is to see everyone. I do relatively little informal shooting anymore, but I find that's a great way to clear the mind and relax.
