Alaska Fox with 17 Remington

I've been calling and spotting fox all weekend trying out my new 17 Remington barrel on my Encore. All shots were between 220-365 yards. Thought I'd share some pics.

Thought those Arctics would be white by this time of year. I used to stomp around Delta Junction a bit. Maybe one of these days, I'll get to go back. Makes those 48'er fox look like house cats.

Here's a few more. Between calling and trapping, I am on track for 100 fox this season. The big one in the second picture weighed 28lbs.
Glad you are enjoying the photos.

No Arctic fox here, just reds. We have three color phases, red, cross, and silver. I would love some ghost white arctics.

Get that big mixed cleaned up and tanned and I'll trade you an arctic pelt for it. I shot it in Canada a few years ago. Beautiful white with some dark grey and black hairs in areas.

What kind of snare cable on the fox? Looks frayed quite badly. What do fox with nice pelts like that bring put up and sold on the auction? We have some beautiful Reds here, but nowhere near the fur yours are carrying.

Lol, the snares I'm using are some premade econo snares I get, and they are barely adequate. No deer stops or swivels and just relaxing washer locks. Sometimes they unravel pretty bad but I haven't lost any fox from them. I pay less than a buck a piece for them. I don't sell my fur, I had a bunch of rugs made for gifts and making king size beadspreads out of them. The only ones I've sold are to taxidermists and I get $250-$300 for unique or giant ones. Got two more today on the trapline.

I was going to say that a coyote would be long gone in that snare. ;D We have a very short snare season here. Snares must have stops, breakaways, be swiveled, have the so called relaxing washer, and have a certain max length and loop size, plus be within a specified heigth range above the ground. No entanglement situation allowed either. You would have a real ball trapping here! ;D Thanks for the photos, I really enjoyed them. Lots of luck to you on the line. If I were 40 years younger, a year on a wilderness trap line would be on my bucket list!

Never seen a red fox with such thick fur. Even in our Australian winter. Great trapping and shooting mate. The fur also makes great fly tying fur if you ever get to go somewhere tropical and do some saltwater fly fishing.

Wow, huge foxes. A big Pennsylvania fox is around 15 pounds with most that I have weighed coming in at 9-12 lbs. Unbelievable pelts on them, too.
