Air rifle accuracy issues crosman TR77nps

Hi all first time posting

I have a Crosman TR77nps in .117 that I have owned for about 18 months. I bought it new and since I bought it I have been unhappy with the accuracy, I fitted a new scope to it (a purpose made air rifle scope) hoping that this would fix the issue. Unfortunately it didn’t. The accuracy varies wildly from day to day snd I have had other people try it and tried it off a bench rest and results tend to be the same. Some days it’s not to bad at 10metres (1 inch group) but on others it’s shocking (6 inch group) and anything over 15 metres is wildly inaccurate. I would expect better from what I am reading on the internet. I have tried the artillery hold and running a bore snake through but still no joy. Can anybody please please help me with this!!!
TIA

I gave up on mine. That Nitro piston mechanism is more like a battering ram. A lot of vibration = no accuracy. Sell it or give it away. Invest in a higher end springer. There's a lot to choose. To be honest I trust more my Benjamin's 397 & 392 that are over 30 year old. I've slaughtered flying rats AKa Pigeons at over 70 yards with my scoped Benji's. Get a Baker mount, scope it and have fun. BTW,they are easy to maintain and parts are available.

You don't need a $2000 PCP, to shoot tiny groups. I would suggest that you check all the screws on the stock and the barrel pivot and make sure they are secure. Make sure that the breech oring is in place. You may have to try several pellets to find what it likes best. It may take a couple dozen patches to clean out the barrel. I would not shoot a pellet lighter than 10.5 grains, as pellets prefer to run under 900 fps as a general rule. Springers and NP take far more skill to shoot than a PCP to shoot accurately. They have to be held the exact same way every shot. Often the budget break barrels are not going to be the best choice for an accurate airgun. H&N and JSB pellets are normally more accurate than a Crosman or Gamo pellet. A dome pellet will be more accurate in a higher power brake barrel than a wadcutter or pointed pellet, and run away from the alloy pellets.

My $400 Air Venturi Avenger Bullpup pcp rifle at 53 yards. Dont think there’s any springer rifle that will shoot like this ;)

My Remington does.
I've taken a lot of digger squirrels with it between 50-100 yards.
I believe I paid $225 and put a 12x air rifle scope on it.
Punched a crow 2 days ago @50yards for messing around the duck pen.

OP, have you tried various pellets?
My rifle prefers Crossman 7.4gr pointed over anything I've tried.

Try and get a baseline with CPHP pellets, both 7.4gr and the 10.2gr, these are generally a known good pellet thats readily available. You don't need to spend a ton of money to get an accurate air gun. Xisico are probably my number 1 choice for inexpensive guns (fully tuned by Mike Mellick) after that Gamo has some good models with available parts. My Gamo springer has taken many rabbits from 50-65 yards with a head shot.

For your gun, check the pivot and bronze bushing. Double check the breach seal o-ring, action screws, and try shooting completely free recoil from a rest.

I’m not saying springers aren’t accurate, but groups in the .3’s at over 50 yards in a springer seems to be an extreme rarity from what I can see on various forums. plus cocking springers every shot is no fun. Pcp is the way to go in my opinion.

If I were to change my scope do I have to find an air rifle scope? I’ve heard the recoil and opposite recoil of the spring is very bad for a normal scope. I have a micro red dot but it will not mount up in my situation.

Scopes that are not Springer/Air Rifle rated will fail quite quickly. Hawke and Leapers are two budget makers with many rated scopes. Even some high (at least for me), end scopes like Sightron, are Not rated, though the Big Sky is. Go to a good air gun site like Pyramid Air and they'll have a lot to choose from.

The accuracy you read about on the net comes from $2000+ pcp air rifles.
Yes the top end of accuracy is a four-figure investment. But for a lot less you can do a lot better than a Crosman.

I once spent significant time trying to salvage a dogsh*t Crosman from its own misery. I’ll never get that time back.

HW-97 or TX-200 is a nice balance of cost, power, accuracy, and convenience. Just make sure to put springer-rated mounts and scope on it.

If .3 groups were more common in your rifle we'd see a picture of more than just the one group.
I agree though .3 is very uncommon in spring rifles but I've shot a few.
Spring guns IMHO are much less trouble because you don't need an air source. If cocking a 12-20 fpe rifle is too much work you probably should take up knitting
I own a Great White Tank and an Omega Air Charger to fill it.I find myself grabbing the TX200 more often than my FX Wildcat or HW110.Both rifles outshoot my springers easily on the average but up to 50 yards not enough to matter.
