Air dry Cera Kote removal?

swd

Silver $$ Contributor
I picked up a Nightforce in trade that was air dry Cera Koted. Is there anything that will cut this stuff once it's dry? I know it might be scuff prepped underneath but would like to remove it.
Thanks

What ever you do test a small area first. If it has been activated (2 part catalyzed)
You with probably need a gel striper. If not, try acetone or lacquer thinner

As it was air-dried, it will be a little easier to remove than baked on, but if it's been on for more than 6 months, it will be very difficult to remove. I would stick it in my lathe and remove most of it with 220 grit while spinning it and then finish sanding the untouched areas by hand. You can then refinish with cerakote in your choice of color.

Try acetone, the air dry isn't a 2 part. Acetone won't hurt the scope, in fact Burris recommends cleaning the lenses with acetone.

As I thought about it, I've removed cerakote from the internals of a spray gun with acetone. I had to soak it but it took it off. I wouldn't soak a scope though.
