Aimpoint or EOTech?

Looking to upgrade my sights on a Colt M4 and was wondering what everyone thought about the Aimpoint brand vs EOTech brand for quality and precision?

I've had an EOTech XPS2 for years and I've had no problems with it. I prefer EOTech over Aimpoint because it's more streamlined (less stuff to catch on things) and the EOTech has a protective hood that protects the device from damage.

I can only answer half. I have used the EOTech 512.A65 for several years and couldn't be happier. Great sight, rugged, excellent battery life, visible in any conditions.

A guy on the forum was selling a pair of them new for a great price if you decide to go with EOTech (and he still has them).

That was my posting and yes they are still for sale. Just to be clear they are like new not new. I did have them on my rifles but they just sit in the safe. I like the eotech stuff over a simple red dot I think you can acquire targets faster. I've just been getting out of the semi auto stuff getting more into benchrest and f class.

I've owned both.

EOTech had a better reticle and ran on batteries I could buy at wal-mart.

Aimpoint has much longer battery life and simpler controls. I don't have to look through it to know if it is turned on and at what setting.

Aimpoint is the one I still have. Sold the EOTech.

I have 2 aim points and they are both always on all the time. Just change batteries every 5 months or so and you are good to go. Eotech is not that way although I like there reticle options. I also have a couple battery free rmr sights and love them to death. No batteries to replace. Only downside is sight washout can happen in the right circumstances and they only have rather large moa dots so I keep one on a glock and the other on a 12 gauge.

I have always run Eotechs. They are definitely more slim-line (nothing to snag). I especially like the field of view with the Eotech over the Aimpoint Patrol and Micros. The Aimpoints to me, give a feel of tunnel vision in the field of view and require more placement specific allowance on the rifle as opposed to the Eotechs where linear placement is not so specific. Plus I have found, there is too much exterior clutter on the Aimpoint Patrol obscuring the heads-up view and the Micros have the tunnel vision effect even though the exterior is more slimline due to the smaller objectives. This may sound unusual but I have also prefer the Eotech because of its fore-aft shape. It navigates soft cases easier than the squared up shapes of the Aimpoints. I guess that's where the snag effect comes into play. Both fantastic optics, but this is just my observation.

I dont buy crap that uses batteries. Batteries corrode, blow up, and when you need it, they are going dead or dead.

Been there seen it. But we aint talking lives on the line either..

Not sure if the M4 was emphasized to include self defense too? If so, the Aimpoint is a no brainer. I think dot size may be smaller too for precision work.
If holding buttons down for 3-5 sec not an issue, there are way advanced red dots on the market. Leupold has a badass system, Vortex razor, etc...

I have 2 EOTechs -One I've had for over 3 years and another over 2 years. I need another red dot and I will be buying another EOTech
I hear good things about Aimpoint but I just like the design of the EOTech better. Plus parts are everywhere for them.
Good luck

I own a couple of Eotechs but after my first Aimpoint T-1, there was no going back. The money is for the sharpness and clarity of the 2 moa dot. If you don’t use NV, the H-1 is those same, just no NV dot and cheaper. I am not familiar with the two models you are comparing but I believe it would just be a lower priced version of same technology. Now, nothing wrong with the Acog either...

I use Aimpoints at work and on my personal stuff. They are used hard and have very high round counts on them. Reliable and durable.

I use an Aimpoint M2. As "both eyes open red dot sights" go it is fantastic to me. I do not like the fact that I don't have an earthless clue where I am going to get more batteries when the ones I have die. I might just buy the M4 version, it uses a AA battery. All that said, my nephew, who did two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan with the Marines brought back an Eotech that took a bullet and still held zero and worked electronically. if I needed a sight that I knew would take some serious abuse...I might have to think seriously about grabbing up on an Eotech.

I have the eotech 512 a65 on my ar, great sight but big and heavy. Although it is nice that it uses AA batteries.
