AI MAGS

I bought from PTG a M5 bottom metal with a 5 round mag, now I decided to get a 10 round mag later on from midway, when it got here It was not the same! It is the same size at the 5 round but will not "click" into my mag well. Some one like to tell me the difference between the two? They both say AI one the bottom.

Hey Caleb: Happy New Year! There are 3 types of AI mags. AW, AICS and AE. Sounds like ya got the wrong 10 rounder. If ya google it, there are pics of them, side by side. Goggle AW vs AICS mags. Scroll down a little, to the strip of pictures. Good luck, Josh

Is it a double stack with two little "ears" on the bottom plate?

Yes it appears to have two little ears on the bottom. The one I use is the one on the top, so what's mine called?

AICS. The lower one is an AIAW.

Your 10 rounder is an AW, or double stack, I find it interesting that it won't "click in" on the PTG bottom metal. All of my mags, AICS and AW will "click in" on all of my rifles designed to accept AI mags, however if your receiver is not designed to work with the AW mags you will have feeding problems. A comparable situation would be standard AR15 feed ramps to M4 feed ramps. The double stack AW mags are the bee's knees. Much easier to load and not super, extra, huge like the AICS 10 rounders. If you want to get a 10 round mag you can go with the AICS mag, Accurate mag of the same style, Mcrees precision, or the Alpha mags. If you want to trade or sell the AW let me know, I have an assortment that would work in your setup and would be happy to have another AW.

Moonshine just struck a match in my memory. I think I read a blurb somewhere that Magpul or somebody was making "plastic AI mags" that worked and were inexpensive.

I would like it to work but last night I smacked it up in the bottom metal and about never got it out. So YES i would like to sell or trade it for a 10 rounder that fits!

I don't think Magpul's has 10 rounders yet.
