Aguilla 60 grain .22L Subsonic Issue ?

I would assume that these need a little faster barrel twist to stabilize but I can't find anything listed other than "The faster barrel twist of the projectile ensures accuracy for target shooting and small-game hunting without excessive noise. Recommended for use in barrels longer than 20" which is on the Aguila site. When I shoot them from a Savage 64 FV-SR (16" barrel) they shot all over the place, two foot groups at 50 yards. I've never seen anything like it. I haven't checked the twist of the Savage and haven't seen it listed but it shoots the 40 grain subs fantastic. The rifle has shot just under an inch at 200 yards, best 5 shot group. I wouldn't think the length would matter as much as the twist. I'd really like to get these to shoot.
Any experience with these ?

Ive never had them shoot well beyond 15 to 20 yards... i cant help..

They are like the in town back yard silent gofer getter...

What snert said. Accuracy of this round in rifles with 1in16 twists usually ranges from poor to nonexistent, based on tests I have run. For reasons I can't explain, once in awhile a 1in16 rifle will tolerate this round with only a moderate deterioration (like an increase of only 1/4" - 3/8" for a 5 shot group at 50 yards), but such specimens are rare. The one I built for the 60 grainers has a 1in9 twist and does fine.

Needs a 1x9 to work best. I built a Stiller Lonestar a few years back for a trainer rilfe. 26 in Lilja 1x9 barrel. Accurate as it is quiet. Enough power to knock down small silhouette targets at a 100 yards. Scott

do you have a pic of that rifle that you could share with us? sounds like the stiller and lilja would be a nice set up

Lilja 1x9 26 in tube. Stiller Lonestar Action. Jewel trigger. Manners T2A stock. Built specifically for shooting Aguila 60 gr pills. Above is my model 41 with Liberty Kodiak TL can. Both are tack drivers.

Very nice. Glad u could get sss ammo to shoot. I have heard that even with the proper twist, it doesnt shoot the greatest.

I shoot them in a 26" long, 14" twist 40-XB and they shoot fine. You can watch them fly down to the target through your scope if the sun is at your back.

Shoots tac 22 better at 50 than the agulia 40gr does, but vice versa at 35 yards. Doesn't like the cci segmented or cheap remington. Also will shoot the RWS-50 about same as tac 22. I leave it sighted in for 50 yards which is max distance from my bedroom and kitchen window to property line (issue with varmints in town). I will shoot sub 1"(usually cluster 1/2 with a few out liers) at 100 with the Aguila 60gr pills depending on the wind. My nephew shoots same barrel on a Hall Repeater action in Elesio tube chasis. Same results, accurate and a ton of fun to shoot.

Thanks for the replies, I figured it was a twist issue. I have built plenty of barrel nut guns but never a .22 so this would be a first. It isn't in front of me and I'm not even sure it has a barrel nut. Can a Savage Mark II be rebarrelled with a nut, how do you set the head space, is there a go gage, are there prefit barrels, etc.?
Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks
