Aftermarket Rimfire action

Still looking for the "Perfect" smallbore Hunter Silhouette rifle. (8 1/2 lbs max including scope) Really hard to find good used Anschutz repeater actions. To buy an Anschutz 54.18 MSR barreled action and then throw away the barrel to get a donor action sure seems like a waste.... Which leads me to.....
There are several aftermarket rimfire repeater actions out there. I need to be conscious of weight and lock time.....

Do any stand out as a better action or value?

Thank you for your thoughts and/or opinions. :)

Single shot..Jewell BR trigger @ 2oz..Picatinny rail 0 degree..2 groove Benchmark....Edge stock..T36 weaver 1/8 dot..Some old Eley 10x... Von Ahrens tuner with 6" bloop tube..

Patti - Does it hold the minute of tree accuracy pretty well? ;D

Really hope to go with a repeater rather than a SS action.

I have spoken to someone with 10X III repeater action and the rifle has been difficult/impossible to get to reliably load from the magazine. I don't know if this is a isolated problem but a finicky magazine fed gun is not what I want to tackle....

you may want to look at picking up an Anschutz exemplar repeater and re bbl/stock it-- the are ligtht and very solid actions, often used in sil shouting .

have one love it .

Merlin,
Have you considered giving Dan Killough at Killough Shooting Sports. com a call and asking him or one of his guys? Dan's not all that far from you and comes across used Anschutz rifles or might have an answer that meets your needs. Just a thought.

Were I building a single shot or repeater today it would start with either of these http://10xshootingsupplies.com/accessories_actions_rimfire.html. The fit and finish on these actions is superb.
The single shot would make an ideal prone gun as the loading port is at least 1" closer to the shooter than an Anschutz and for less than $800 it is an outstanding value

Look for an Annie 1827 barreled action.

My Hunter class rifle has a 1827 Sprint Action.

Merlin,

Your reinventing the wheel again. Like we discussed before most all of the custom BR type actions available for sporter use are not built to really feed from the mag. The mag is there to meet the rules of a couple of the BR disciplines that require at least a 2 shot magazine. If you look at the Baity action it has the same magazine set up as my 10X III. Not only does mine not feed correctly it is almost impossible to remove from the stock. There is one company you could try but I suggest you talk with Mark Pharr about it also due to fitting problems he had. The action that Mark fooled with was a Ultralight Arms repeater. Talk with Mark about it, the one he did I think he ended up converting to a single shot.
You just need to find someone that has a 54-18 hunter rifle for sale and buy it ready to go. Like you said if you buy a 54-18 standard rifle not only do you have to junk the barrel you have a stock you don't need and a trigger to modify.
Take a look at the site link below.

Good luck, Paul

Rick,

I have a 10X III that I had built into a silhouette standard rifle. Take it from me the mag is of no use other than to meet the rules for BR. I have tried to get them on the phone to see if I can convert the action to a single shoot. I have left several messages and emailed them multiple time with not one response. I just decided to go ahead and hand load them direct into the chamber.

Feel free to email me if you would like more information. The gun shoots great once a couple of problems were resolved. Don't think I would do it again due to the lack of communication on the manufactures part.

The 10X XIII repeater action is a modified version of their single shot action. The SS action was lightened up some by milling a dovetail rail for scope mounting and then adding a five shot magazine. The magazine supplied, is aftermarket and mainly needed to comply with IR 50/50 Sporter class rules. Most IR 5050 Sporter benchrest competitors do not feed from the magazine anyway and just load them single shot. The magazine must be functioning, but the rules do not require its use in a match.

If you want a top knotch silhouette Sporter, purchase a new Anschutz 1712 with the wood stock and shoot it with the factory barrel, that is much more accurate than most shooters can hold offhand. I've owned a 1712 for years and also have and XIII Sporter action rifle, they are both excellent when used for what they are intended. No, I do care to sell either. Remember the old saying, "Buy once, cry once".

Just noticed that Merlin's last post about this was back in June. I saw him last weekend and he has a new hunter rifle built on a 1712 with a new Lilja barrel and a Pharr RT/s silhouette stock. He has seen my 10X III and is aware of the problem with the magazine. I am not complaining about the rifle it shoots fantastic and I don't have to have the magazine. I just want anyone who considers this option to know they will have feeding problems.
I have a Anschutz 1712 & 54-18 both in Pharr stocks along with two Remington 40x hunter silhouette rifles so I did not need another hunter gun. I wanted a dedicated standard rifle again and wanted a repeater but I am happy with the gun the way it is.

Actually....... 8)

As far as my Silhouette rifles.... I am currently shooting a 1427 Biathlon based Pharr stocked 54 repeater built by Evelio McDonald - part of the time with a 1712 based Pharr stocked gun by Mark Pharr in the works also. Since I posted the original question I have bought, shot and traded a number of various Anschutz rifles and now have 3 Annie repeaters and a 54 Match based single shot.

Evelio or Mark can and do build rifles that, IMHO, are as good as it gets. Period.

Truth is - I am a rimfire slut. :o

I was looking at the 10X III action, but my use requires that it feed from the magazine. I have yet to find a 10X III repeater owner that can get it to function reliably as other than a single shot. YMMV, but I'm not known for being lucky, so I shelved that idea, as it is doubtful that I would be the only guy in the country that has a 10X III repeater action that actually functions reliably as a repeater.
