Aero Solus Issues?

Idk if it would be headspace, both the Lapua and Peterson were brand new out of the box so virgin brass. And my sizing die is set up to be about 15 thousandths off the lands.....

I've found factory brass to be pretty short (base to shoulder) out of the box. Enough so that I've gone to new process of jamming the bullet into the rifling on the first firing with new brass to try and get the length back without stretching the case.

...and Zermatt, and American Rifle Co., and... pretty much everyone other than Aero Precision these days.
In anything, customer service is paramount if not I look other places.
Wether the O.P. brass is to short is the major problem or not id change the firing pin spring regardless after 3,000 rounds.

I hope this was a misprint on your part. Using the sizing die to set bullet distance from the lands is not a good idea.

my lapua were new virgin brass that i didnt size i just loaded them rite out of the box. its the only time i get this problem. sorry i bothered you

As others have mentioned, lapua and other new brass can be quite short out the box effectively causing excessive headspace. If the gun has a chamber on the large side of go then it's even worse.

Combine that with some new brass having extremely tight primer pockets, which makes it extremely difficult to actually feel when the primer is touching the bottom of the pocket, leaves a lot of potential for misfires.

A bolt clean and a new spring never hurts though.

This seem very odd…a sizing dies does not have any relationship on how you seat bullet in relation to the land. Your case should be sized - even new case and fire formed to fit the chamber if brass is too short to begin with..
My guess the problem is there..

It would be interesting to change the firing pin spring then try to fire a round that wouldn't fire to see what happens

Hey Y'all,

Just wanted to close the loop in on this. So, I took it to a gunsmith, and they didn't see any wear or issue with it. I decided to bring this to a friend who was sponsored by aero in the past, and he said that the springs were oversprung on his solus and assumed that was what happened to mine. So he changed the pin and spring just to be safe.

Shot it about 100 rounds now with no issues. It sadly didn't shoot the missfires, but hasn't had a hiccup yet on my new reloads. I guess my pin wore that much in 3k rounds.

I'm no gunsmith nor am I a professional, but it's been my experience that if you truly rectified the problem then most of your light primer strikes if not all would have fired. I would measure shoulder to base and see what the difference is. I have two solus actions and my buddy also has two and there are over 5k rounds on each without a hick up. I would bet that you either have a chamber to brass size issue or a primer seating depth issue. Thats just my experience.

the pic with the light strikes and the two fired cratered primers on the far rt of the pick look like a excessive headspace, but i agree with the others get another firing pin spring, check trigger mounting and fire pin fall travel, if the problem is headspace and all your shoulders are bump a mile back, i would try to jam the bullet into lands to tighten up any gap in headspacing, it could be as easy as loading error die adjustment

First thing I would do is clean it and shoot it dry with some cheap factory ammo.

You can pop into a Walmart on the way to or from work and pick up a box of 6.5CM ammo and know real fast what direction you need to look.

Just from the first opening thread I would suspect ammo or something in the bolt right away.

I do not know enough about Aero's bolt guns to have an opinion.

Since you have 3000 rounds through it something has changed! What changed?
