Advise on a 300 wsm

I have a friend who just purchased a 300wsm Browning A bolt. He will be deer hunting with it in east TN. He asked me about what ammo to shoot, I don't have a clue for this cannon. Anyone have a suggestion on what factory ammo and what grain might be the best most accurate round. I told him Hornady was pretty good for factory ammo but did not know about what grain bullet to shoot. This guy is a huge deer hunter but always bow hunts. He is going to try some gun hunts for the first time. I cant help him out because all I own is a .223 and a 22 hornet and im just learning about those. Thanks for any help.

If he just bought it, he'll have plenty of time to figure it out before next season. I'd like more information- I assume he is going to use factory ammo, not reloading? And what ranges are we talking about as far as shot possibilities go? Dense woods, picking them off in bean fields, etc?

most likely 200 yards would be top distance. Most woods in our area are not super dense, He will be shooting factory. He was just trying to find a good mainly accurate round, He is trying to use the rifle this year that's why he was asking me if I may know, He was just trying to get a good stating point this year until he can go shoot several different rounds.

For my deer rifle in 7 SAUM, I keep a few boxes of nosler on the shelf just in case. It's just a factory rifle, so for it's purpose it serves it well. I think nosler is quality stuff. The WSM variant has a lot more choices when it comes to factory ammo. The Barnes ttsx wouldn't be a bad choice either.

When I was considering the 300 wsm, I had decided on the 180 grain accubond. It looked like it would preform well for my needs.

Good luck

I will second the Nosler 180 gr Accubond, that is quality ammo and one of the best for shooting factory fodder. But what your buddy needs to do is to take up reloading, 300WSM is very expensive to shoot if your buying factory, he can seriously reduce the cost by reloading
