Today I introduced a friend to my outdated BR rifle. He shot a fine 6 shot group, with 4 in the 1's. Ya, a Mickey Mouse. The two strays were ears on either side. He was enthralled.
He is now very interested in an introductory BR rifle.
I suggested we look for a 6PPC budget gun.... a retiree...so to speak. He can learn to load for rifle. I can get him set up easily.
I am thinking an older Panda or a BAT.
My main question is: Do PAnda (or BAt) bolts pull both a PPC and a 308 based case? I think he will enjoy shooting (he will not shoot matches) some SR group stuff. But I am sure down the road he might want to stretch the legs a bit, so a 6BR or 6BR based case may be on the docket for a later date. He was just amazed to drop bullet after bullet into an ever enlarging hole on a fly target at 100.
I have a BAT (not sure which action) BR stock I could give him. Or if I could find a reciever and stock combo and the barrel it?
His gun budget is 2K, but I would like to get him started at $1500 and have $ for a used Wever or Sightron 36X.
For reference my rifle is an old Superior in a Lee Six stock, with a rock creek barrel (HV) in 6x50RWS mag and a Sightron 36X, a tuned OLD remington trigger and he thought he was in heaven.
I just know he is going to want to shoot out to 600 so the BR case and a 107 will suffice for his tastes, down the road.
So I'd like to get him in with something that has some flexibility.
What say you guys?
I don't thnk I want to go Rem 700 and I am thinking used/retired, club gun mentality here. Kinda like my Superior. Not competative, but still so much fun.
