advice please 6 x 47 Lapua

Just returned from my first trip to the range. I have a blur printed Remi originally chamber for 6mmBR Norma with 1 in 8 twist and I was getting 0.2 / 0.3 at 100 and 1.5 inches at 300 meters without problem. I then rechambered this for the 6 x 47 lapua using a full length Redding die and neck turn to .298 shooting 105 vmax. Thie purpose of this setup is small game and varmint. I reloaded 36 grain working slowly up to 39 grain. MV ranges 2450 ending at 2850. spread was very tight 20 - 30 fps eiter way. However I am getting nothing tighter than 1 inch. I was seating at the land working my way backwards as well.

In a way I am a bit disappointed since I was getting 2850 using less powder shooting a 6mmBR Norma factory balck diamond load. I had hope to get higher velocity with the lapua. Any suggests from anybody using a similar setup?

I think I will try a different neck bushing and also working past 39 grain as well
thanks

.298 NK. is HUGE. Maybe you should cast the chamber and check the dims.of the chamber/neck. My 6-284s are no turn nks.made from 6.5-284 Lapua brass necked with Redding bushing dies and they are .274 w/seated bullets, chamber neck is .276.My 6.5 cals.run from .292-.296 Nk dia. 6.5 IHMSA is .292. ,260,260 AI,6.5-284 are .296 nk Dia.

Yep, definitely something wrong with that number. Londonhunter, I am getting 3060 fps. @ 85 degree temps @ 41 Gr. of VV-N560 under a 105 gr. Berger VLD in my 6 X 47 Shehane. Bill

.298 neck cannot be correct for a 6mm. I have a 6x47L with a 270 neck. I size my brass down with a Forster Full length die and it comes out of the die at .270.
I have no trouble attaining 3100+ with 105 sencars in a 1-8 barrel.

cheers

Could it be possible that someone ran a 6.5x47 Lapua reamer in 6mm bbl. As I recall the neck on my old 6.5x284 was .298.

Sorry I mistyped the neck bushing it should be 268

I have been searching aroudn the forum and I thnik other members are getting 3000+ using 41 grains of 4350. I will go back recheck all dimetnsion and try again next week.

Thanks

After numerous article expounded the virtues of H4350 with 105's in the 6X47, i was pulling my hair out getting it to work. After trying a variety of powders and every damned bullet I could get my hands-on, I was about to rip-off and re-chamber. I came so close it wasn't funny.

THEN i discovered N560! This is a difficult powder to find in Canada, yet I grabbed some at a local gun show and found a good source.

Holy schytt!!!!!

There is no difference in group size,Averaging .2" at 150 meters) between 37.5 and 39.5 grains of powder, but the hotter loads push to 3150 fps with Berger 105 VLD's

This was an awakening! I was telling people to stay away from the 6X47, now I'm one of its biggest fans.

Thank you so much. I live in the Uk however I have many relatives in Toronto met Area and I also have an unrestricted FAC in Ontario. The netx time I am in Canada I promise to buy to a large Molson!!!!!!!!!!

I will now try and dig up some N560................

I sense we were going down the same route in the last few weeks.

Thanks again

I am off hunting for 07 days and will come back to you in due course
