Advice on grouping

The scope was just mounted, all screws and holes were degreased with acetone, torque with a fat wrench....I'm thinking that the torque adjustment on the action screws will tighten it up, as the group's have potential, when the wind slows down, I'll reshoot

Are you single loading your rounds? If not that might be an easy try. My cz527 17 Hornet when feed from the magazine always throws the second round

Substitute another known reliable scope at some point ? Along with all other good suggestions, consider you may have a form-fruste of a 2 in/1 out which may call for seating further OFF the lands

I like seymour's first sentence advice - I'd check that. :D However, I'd bet on a bedding issue. While I'll admit, I have no knowledge of the Savage bedding system, bedding which requires differing (front/rear) torque values is, at best, faulty bedding - a wreck waiting to happen.;) RG

as an update, made it to the range today, shooting 130gr Berger OTM's, and 42.8 H4350. Had two groups under a 1/2", seated at .010 and .050 off rifling. So im now thinking that maybe it was the 140gr Elite hunter bullets were not the bullet for this rifle....I have some hunting Hybrid VLD's in 140gr ordered, so maybe i can mess around with seating depth and loads to see if it can get better. Although, for a box stock Savage LRH , i won't complain about 1/2" groups...velocity was 2850, pressure was non exisistant so i may see what the upper limit might be, but i'm not worried about mega speed...Thanks to all who contributed help....

It took me several years to realize that accuracy nodes really exist. I used to change bullets and seating depths with less concern about the powder charge. Now seat a little off the lands and spend my initial time with the powder charge. I am far from an accomplished shooter. The powder weight first method saved me a bunch of time and agony. I learned this methodology 100 percent from this site. I even doubted it's validity while purusing the OCW threads. I now find that once you find an accuracy node, you have to try to screw up the group.

If you just shot a couple of 1/2 inch groups, your rifle setup is probably close to okay. Try a different powder if H4350 is not working to your satisfaction?
