Ads on bottom of forum pages

Um, is this a new feature or is my computer suddenly infected? When going to individual threads in the forum, I am now getting big links to "Congressman warns of pending dollar failure" stories, etc.

Just wondering...

EDITOR: This is not a malware thing

This is a new feature we are testing as a possible revenue source. Hopefully as the network matches the theme of the forum better we will see more normal ads. When we began this process the sample ads were for banks, automobiles, airlines etc.

I definitely don't want to see inappropriate listings, but it will take some days for us to evaluate this experiment. The ad network "brain" has to learn our guys are interested in outdoor recreation, trucks, etc., rather than Hollywood celebrities.

We have tried to select a location that is "minimally invasive". We had an Amazon advert running at the bottom of the page, but that was discontinued by Amazon, with a very significant revenue loss to the Forum. We are experimenting with this new offering to replace lost revenues from Amazon.

Got'em also. Never before.
Hope it's not a virus as last year I was getting two blue lines underlining key words in posts and that was a virus.

One of the reasons for this is to raise additional funds to upgrade the Forum to a mobile-friendly format. That is not an insubstantial task that could involve much expensive programming and site customization -- costing thousands of dollars. In the long run though, that would benefit our members. Now approximately 28% of Forum visits are from mobile platforms -- 18% from smartphones and 10% from tablets.

Does Accurate Shooter still get proceeds from sales from Amazon if we go through the amazon link on the forum?

Editor: Yes we do, and 100% of those revenues (every penny) go for site server and IT support.

Glad I ran across this post I've been scanning and cleaning my PC to no avail thought I had a virus :o :-\

Forum Boss,

Thanks for the fast and detailed response! That relieves my mind...thought I had a bug!
