Adjusting dampening on Lyman / Ohas M5 scale

I purchased an older Lyman M5 recently. It looks unused. I think I know why. The beam does not swing freely. I have cleaned the knife edges and bearings they ride in. Is there a way to adjust the magnetic dampening on this scale?

Make sure there isn't any foreign material in the recess that the copper plate runs in. I had one pick up a few shavings from a steel wool pad one time.
