Adjustable cheek piece on 40xb stock?

Thinking about installing an adjustable cheek piece on my 40xb stock, just wondering who here has done it and if you have pics to show how it was cut. I'm particular about my rifles looking good and shooting good.

Ask JoshB and look at his work . He's got an excellent thread going called 'Do it yourself stock making '

Yes, I have seen that thread and have one of his patterns too, but I guess I'm more looking for examples of 40x stocks that have had the work done just to get ideas of my own.

You can google "adjustable cheekpiece" and get some examples to look at. Quite a few come to mind but I don't have any pics. For help with the process, I'm here. A problem you may have is with a loss of material when cutting out the cheek piece. You could use the thinnest scroll saw blade possible for the cut and you'll still lose 1/16" of wood and the top of your butt will be out of line. That's if you made a perfect cut that needed minimal finish sanding. If you did a straight cut from your butt plate forward, you still might have a difference in the width. If you send me a good close up of your butt (gun butt please;)), I can look thru my wood pile for a piece that matches the grain of your stock. Then you'd have enough wood to form the new cheekpiece. I'm assuming it's Walnut. Let me know. Josh

Oh I'm not worried about the saw kerf, I can deal with that by using a vaneer of some sort. I'll just start going through pics.

You know that's an advanced skill!;) If you need some thin slices, just send me a PM.

The truth is that I can't, in good conscience. I bought a checkering starter set and played with it for a while but I haven't done any stocks yet. You don't want me playing with your gun.

Based on the shape of the 40xb stock you should take a look at the shape of the adjustable comb cuts on shotguns that have a low comb. The upside is that you don't have to worry about the stock bolt or stock bolt hole like you would on a shotgun. I spend a fair amount of time trying to figure out what I am going to run into when I put an adjustable comb on someone's shotgun. You do lose the kerf material, but since you plan to raise the comb anyway does the loss matter?
