Additive for case cleaning?

This is gonna sound crazy but along with brass polish liquid I throm a couple of sheets of those anti cling dryer things in there with the media. You won't believe how much grime those sheets pull out of the media and it makes your brass smell pretty!

used Brasso for years -- now it has ammonia in it so no more,

it worked beautifully never had a problem with brass from its use.

can i re-light this flame? WTF?

brass is designed to expand and grab the chamber walls to prevent excessive rearward bolt pressure then release for extraction or am i missing something? isn't polishing and slicking up brass defeating this purpose?

but in the same thoughts, i don't chapstick my truck tires either? i must have missed that boat?

im with Alf here..cleaning and stripping is fine but why would you make it slick?

I never have had a problem with the outside being too clean but I have had horrible results with SS media and the inside of the necks. Bullet release was inconsistent and seemed to drag, cling whatever you want to call it. It shows its ugly head when seating bullets - you can feel it.

I started using long grain white rice years ago and still use it today. I can get a huge bag for about $8 and lasts a long time. I mix cheap liquid car wax (about a tablespoon) with about a tablespoon of lemon juice, toss it in, let it run for about 20 minutes than add my brass. Come out incredibly shiny and clean.

Skeeter, I did not say anything in this thread til I saw yours. I use rice as well. Whole grain is a tad more course than white, but both work well. My wife asked me "Have we eaten all of the rice?" Nope, but my brass is clean :)

Hi guys,
I was at work today and the guys were using crushed corn cob media to blast walls with..it is untreated and I thought this would be perfect for tumbling my brass in..plus its free..
I have read that alot of guys dump NU-finish car wax in it and there good to go..
Any other things I might have around the house that my work better..
What have you tried, what works the best and how do you add it?
Thanks

I have used corn cobb media for years. I see no reason to contaminate it with some polish. I want my brass clean not coated with some wax or chemical.

Does anyone boil off the brass after tumbling to make sure that all dust, wax, or additive is removed?

Haven't tried that but if needed, I put the brass in a larger plastic container with a lid and hot water from the tap with dish washing detergent. Shake it up a few times, leave it for a couple hours or overnight, and rinse. To dry, shake the water out, put them in an old baking pan, and bake in the oven for an hour at 175-200°. But don't tell the wife, somehow they don't understand the need!

Honestly I was just seeing what I could do to speed up tumbling/ clean time..as I'm the impatient type..
I don't feel it contaminates anything..what I have found is is helps break down carbon faster then raw corncob media and shines the case..also it seems to help control dust..the down side it since there is no dust all contaminates are stuck to the media, and media life is shorter. But is so cheap who cares..I would rather have no dust, clean cases , fast, much more inexpensive..
Just my opinion

The only additive that I use is silver polish paste. Just a teaspoon of it in a pound of crushed walnut shells is enough to last as long as the media. I wash and reuse my media and the polish residue washes out with all the dirt and crud. Dry it in the sun or in an oven (I use my parts oven in the winter and the sun in the summer) and then when I use it the next time I add another teaspoon of silver polish. I buy my crushed walnut shells at the local feed and grain store - $20 for 25 pounds... I don't think I will ever need what I have but my son might someday.

Crushed walnut shell is also sold as grit blasting media at Home Depot. You'd have to check as to the grit size you want (I think I've heard #12 screen, but I can't remember now.)

If your into shiny brass inside an out even primer pockets , don't knock yourself out looking for different cleaners an polishes . Go wet tumble with SS Pins add dry lube to your bullets when seating . Nothing better as far as I'm concerned .
