I formed some 6XC brass from 6.5 X 47 lapua brass, it was very easy.
I tried several different dies, using Tubb dies and a 0.268 bushing worked best. I set it as if I was going to push a 6XC shoulder back 0.001. This creates a false shoulder where the crimped down 6mm neck expands up to 6.5mm. This false shoulder forces the case against the boltface when you load it.
I used 38 grains of H4350, cci 450 primers, 115 grain Moly DTAC bullets, I did not measure the speed of these rounds. My usual Load with Tubb brass and 115 Moly DTAC bullets is 39.6 grains of H4350, fed 210 primers,velocity is 2920 fps. The case formed nicely. The neck is short, COL is 1.830 inches, my trimmed XC brass is 1.885 inches. Neck length is difficult for me to measure, it is short, but the neck is short when you form it from 22-250 bass also.
Looks likes good brass with a small primer pocket. Be sure to change your decapping pin. Looks like this could be a dependable source of good brass for the 6XC.
I am out of 115 DTAC's and H4350 so I tried 105 Lapuas and RE15, they have worked very well in my Dashers.
Average speed of loaded rounds, 105 gr bare Lapuas, loaded 0.018 into lands, RE 15, CCI 450 primers, 26 inch Schneider barrel, 7.5 twist, 4600 feet of elevation, 96 degrees, 8% relative humidity
36 gr 3000 fps
36.5 gr 3048 fps
37 gr 3120 fps
37.5 gr 3130 fps
38 gr 3180 fps
38.5 gr 3210 fps
39 gr 3260 fps there are slight extractor marks on these cases at 39 grains
With the exception of the 39 grain load all the other loads appear safe. Looks like this brass, powder, and bullet will produce much higher velocity. Not a one to one comparision since I am using different bullets, brass, primers and powder, but certainly an eye opener for me. It looks like this combination will give spectactular results.
This barrel has had many rounds through it but these loads gave me very good groups. I am not a benchrest shooter so someone with skill in that area would be a better judge of possible accuracy than me.
I have a new 30 inch barrel that I will test with Moly DTAC bullets when they arrive.
Haven't done any other testing yet.
