Adding weight to stock poi shift

I’ve tried to Google this and can’t find an exact answer I’m gonna buy a Ruger American GEN II 7 mm PRC I’m also gonna have my disabled dad use this when he goes elk hunting from time to time they offer an accessory kit which allows you to put 1.6 pounds into the stock. Which i will Do for him. I will already have a suppressor installed on this 20 inch barrel that will never come off I will develop a hand load with the suppressor installed. my question is having no weight in that stock versus having the 1.6 pounds of weight in the stock how significantly will that impact my point of impact ?

I know no one might be able to give me the exact answer I’m not gonna F class shoot with this this is my main hunting rifle , but would like to add the extra 1.6 pounds for kids and my dad. I do shoot long range and don’t have a problem taking 600 yard shots, that being said I’m probably not gonna have the weight in the stock when I hunt unless I significantly find it helps me balance my suppressor, I will always have it in for them I can’t see them shooting more than 300 yards. I just have not found any antidotal Examples of adding weight in a butt stock anywhere online in regards to the point of impact shift .

Today's generations want answers. They don't want to do the work. Yes it's a generalization but I see it in the explosion of the rimfire games. As long as it gets people in the shooting sports I can live with it. Just glad I learned a different way. You see it in the many post that start.....I think....I heard.... I have read vs. What I have done..... I tested and found... these targets show.......
Testing, trying things is how you learn and grow knowledge. Reading and retaining is not quite the same thing.

Because the rifle begins to recoil before the bullet has left the barrel - any changes in center of gravity or total weight will affect where the barrel is pointing when the bullet leaves the muzzle.

I would imagine that there should be a specific place where the change in weight would happen that would not impact the POI.

No I just wanted to theorize it I like thinking about things and mapping them out in my mind. I think I said in the beginning I don’t think there’s an exact answer but maybe 12 people got on here who say I’ve never seen somebody had weight and it didn’t change POI. Just thinking out loud before I build a rifle. Talking about generations I don’t know what generation you think I’m in laugh out loud but it’s probably not the one you think I’m in.

But yeah when I’m about to build a rifle around a monolithic copper bullet and I’m stuck between two calipers and one’s a little more recoil sensitive and they have my disabled dad shoot it. I’m gonna ask a few questions on here when I’ve exhausted the Google searches and haven’t found the answer I want. Also I’m thinking that’s what these forms are for, asking questions, getting feedback and learning from others who have already been down the path you haven’t, anyways, good day.

I was not pointing a figer at you per sey, only you know where you fit. I should have noted that. I am glad to see your helping your dad, that makes you a good guy in my book. Hopefully you dad gets a good shoot at one, killing it even better. Good luck to both of you. I sure would not ask Google for gun information though. You did end up at a good spor just be sure those answering your question have first hand , hands on knowledge, not just Google smart.

I don't feel it's lazy as smart. I spent tons of money through the years testing crap I could have asked and found out for free and be tons further ahead. When the era of internet on a phone hit, Google made the dumbest people on earth smart. As long as someone is asking a genuine question and has interest in what's going on, I will help them to the fullest of my capability

I would only add weight if it was needed to balance the rifle , with every thing in place.
The scope,suppressor,sling and ammo.
If the recoil is to much reduce powder charge or bullet weight. Add a thicker, wider recoil pad.
Make sure the stock fits and is correct length of pull.
It’s GREAT you’re taking your dad hunting. Good luck.

To much hearsay involved for me. Good luck.

Adding fixed weight to the rifle increases the rifles weight, increasing the rifles inertia!! NEWTON'S 1st Law of Motion (Inertia and Momentum)!!! More inertia, less recoil, and less effect of lateral movement (lifting and twisting) with the induced torque on the barrel, due to the bullets same rotation inertia acting on the barrel!!! NEWTON'S 3rd Law of Motion (Action and Reaction Forces)!!! You should see more consistency on the target with the added FIXED weight!!

Utilizing Newton's 1st and 3rd Laws, I added about 8oz of lab grade fine iron fillings to the epoxy resin, before adding the catalyst, to my full length bedding in my rifles!!! Then, free floated the barrel!! They grouped much better, lifting was reduced, and the felt recoil dropped a little!!! And, the best fit slope of the 2 lateral testing/rifle (1 shot/powder increments on the full powder range at 200m), was better on the heavier rifles, trending a little more upward swing with the ranges (x and y components) slightly dropping!!! Most noticeable in the x component!!!

I no longer test before bedding with added heavy particles after the 1st 2 bedding jobs!! Only after!!!!

Too your point of adding weight, the more rearward added weight reduces felt recoil and has slight more lift since the center of gravity has shifted reward!! Torque (amount of lift of the rifle), in this situation, is the radius (distance from the buttplate to the center of mass of the rifle) times the force of the lift! Too minimize the lift, the weight needs to be added towards the forearm of the stock!! This increase the distance of the center of mass of the rifle to buttplate, greatly reducing the torque or lifting of the rifle!!!

My advice for the smaller or older people, get shooting vests with the silicon gel (energy absorbing) shoulder pad inserts!!! Then, they could shoot other rifles without getting hammered by recoil!! But there will be limits as to how much they can handle!!! Larger calibers with heavy bullets in magnum size cases will still push (not shove) them back!!!! I've shot, several times, 460 Weatherbee and 438 Win Mag with my 136lb frame!! Yeah, the recoil had me stepping back!!! An never, shoot thoses big boys in the sitting possession!!! Did it once!!! Strained the muscles in my back and shoulders, while I ended up looking at and pointing the gun to the sky!!! Never again!!!
